The STI is a great car, but unless you have to have seat height adjustment and cruise control from the factory, most reasons to pick it over an Evo are purely aesthetic and/or subjective, boiling down to personal preference.

However, I will say that the utility of the wagon style of the '08+ STIs is pretty cool.
Sound mostly.

i have a 05 sti and i really want an evo 9 mr now. when i bought my sti in 05 the only reason i bought it instead of the evo was cuz of the interior lol. so when the 06 evo came out i was pretty pissed lol. ive had a lot of fun wit my sti over the years but after modding it and blowing the stock block and then a cosworth block im over it. i drag my car very often and run it hard. the 4g63 is just a way better plat form and for what i want i think the evo is better for me. after reading and reading i just think the evo is over all a better car and it looks mean!...cant wait to get mine

I can't say exact numbers, but it's pretty fair to believe that you'll need to swap out your TMIC for a FMIC earlier than you'd need to swap out the stock Evo FMIC for a larger unit due to its reasonable size and ideal location given a decent hp target.
Totaly true!

I think the new wagon hatch looking 08/09's look ugly. I tested them out before buying my X, and I'm real happy with my decision. I feel I got a better bang for my buck!
I used to own a Subaru wrx which I modded to 350 flywheel hp and really enjoyed my wrx as well. I think either path a buyer takes they will be happy. Evo's get more power aftera tune though and are cheaper to insure!!!

I remember when I bought my '05 Subie and regretting not buying an Evo. Also, reading on the Subie forums from other owners, wishing they did the same (buying an Evo). Nevertheless, 4 1/2 years later, I have a X GSR and love it. Both have pro's & cons but I have to give credit, where credit is due. I suppose the grass is always greener!!!!

I was looking at stis and evos before i bought mine. And i first tested the sti 06, then a evo 06 with warn out clutch. Even with a bad clutch I knew the EVO was for me. Its just sick $#!% man. I just need to find one that wasn't hurting.
