My Evo X Journey (grab a coffee or beer)
My Evo X Journey (grab a coffee or beer) -- NOW w/ PICS
After searching for a WW '10 for a few months, I finally had one tracked down within what I deemed a reasonable distance.
I put $1000 down over the phone to hold the car for a few days. Yesterday, 8/9/10, was pick up day. At 7am, myself and two buddies started the 4.5 hour drive to Tom Masano Mitsubishi in Reading, Pa.
Upon arrival at the dealer, I quickly noticed that the car on the lot was not the car I had seen on their website and Autotrader. I came to find out that the car I was dealing on was actually sold a week earlier. In an effort to cover their tracks, they dealer traded to get one from NJ.
The one from NJ was different; it had chrome mirrors and most notably a front license mount. The mirrors I could live with, but the front license mount was another story. As I live in PA, I have no need for a front license plate so I asked them to remove it. It was at that time that I was told the removal of the license mount would leave four 1/4" holes in the bumper.
.
The dealer's response was to plug the holes. I was far from thrilled with the idea, but since I just drove 4.5 hours, I decided to at least see how their plan panned out. With time to kill, I walked back in the showroom, had some coffee and paced around for a few mins. Growing ever more frustrated and impatient, I walked back out side to see how the "plugging" was progressing.
I walked out to find my salesman plugging the 4 large holes with matte black plugs. He was actually painting the black plugs with a WW touch-up pen. WTF!!
. They looked absolutely horrendous. What dealer would think this was a good idea? Words can't describe how awful an idea it was.
Needless to say, I was refunded my $1000 and I made the 4.5 hour drive home. There are some gray areas, but I'm reasonably confident of the following:
1. When I initially made an offer on the car, the car had already been sold
2. They knew the plate would possibly be an issue, but thought maybe I wouldn't notice. WRONG!
3. They knew they were deceiving me, yet not a single person apologized
4. I drove 9 hours for a cup of mediocre coffee
Fast forward one day, 8/10/10. I tracked down yet another WW Evo X, this one is actually closer. We agreed to a price of $32,250 (SSS, no navi, no aero, 8 miles
); $700 less than the previous dealer.
I'm embarking on another 3 hour drive tomorrow to go pick it up
. Hopefully the outcome is significantly better than my experience at Tom Masano Mitsubishi in Reading, Pa.
** Does anyone have an email or phone number of Mitsubishi Auto customer service or some place I can formally file a complaint against the first dealer?

I have a set of Swift springs sitting in my garage right now, just waiting to be installed. I'm keeping it simple: an intake, CB exhaust, and a tune (for starters).
On a side note, on the drive home today, the road was being paved and apparently some tar got thrown all over the place. When I washed the tar off, I found that the WW paint was stained
. Never have I encountered this with another car. Crappy Mitsu paint? Never owned a white car before, but I doubt this is a common occurrence.
Have any WW owners complained of stained paint from tar, bird crap, et cetera?
I spent hours cleaning the entire sides of the car. Started with tar and bug remover, little result. Next was Meguire's paint cleaner, with a little better result. Then some rubbing polish with yet slightly more progress. I still see the light marks if I look for them, but a passer by would be hard pressed to notice. Any suggestions on the stain removal front?
I'm having a clear bra installed in a few days and I'm also going to have the side skirts covered. But this **** was all over the fenders
