Well guys it looks like I am going to be an EVO X owner in the coming weeks. The STI build is going to end up being $8,200 now instead of $7,700 without headwork and I have been reading that built STI engines go out around 25-30k under daily driving conditions which has scared me away a bit. My Dad helps me with some of my financial decisions and gives me advice when I need it and he now is saying that building the STI would be stupid but he doesn't know about the mods {thumb up} Pretty much the last thing holding me back from jumping right into an EVO X are these:

-No HomeLink mirror option (easy fix)
-No heated seats (do not want the sunroof in leather package)
-Fear of engine/transmission going out on me if I mod on E85 and full bolt-ons
-Not being able to switch boost levels on the fly like in the STI
-No telescoping steering wheel
-Significantly smaller trunk with no folding seats

I know that most of the reasons are very minor, the main one holding me back is the fear of blowing up the EVO in another year which would screw me over so bad because I would not be able to build the EVO do to some personal reasons. On the bright side, if I go through with it, I was offered a deal from Sam Smash at South Coast Mitsubishi for a 2 years lease that I can jump out of at any time and can earn 2-3k equity at the end of 2 years if I sell it or trade it for the new STI that is going to be out. Buying it out of the lease is also an option and would cost just as much as it would to pay cash for the car in a few weeks. I have been reading up on the blown motor thread which sort of scares me but at least it seems like most of the failures are due to maintenance errors, driver error, or too much torque. Wish me luck!

I had a 2011 STI and a 2012 WRX in the past. I had a 2014 ISM limited sedan on order, that I recently cancelled. It's funny because I actually watched your vid on "Why I chose the STI over the EVO" and it made me justify my STI decision... AGAIN!

However I thought for awhile and knew that I would get bored with the STI. If I got rid of my first one, I would get rid of the second one. I have always wanted a Wicked White Evo X ! I tried ordering a WW GSR, I wanted leather and sunroof. Unfortunately the two nearby Mitsu dealers were absolute garbage. My wife wanted me to get the MR so she could drive it as well.

Coming from a 6 speed 400whp/450wtq+ N54 135I, I really just wanted a good DD that does well in snow and is fun.

I am now in the market for full bolt ons and dyno tune to make a safe and conservative 310/320. Also as soon as my 1st gear boost limit will be taken off, the SST will really shine. It already does with it's lightning fast shifts when you want it, and a nice traffic friendly car when you need it to be.

There is something about the Evo, it's unique, and rare compared to Subies. Which are a dime in a dozen where I'm from. When I had my STI, I was always intimidated when I saw an Evo

Get the Evo man

Hey everyone, so I figured I would give you guys an update to my car situation, yesterday November 12, 2013, I traded in my 2013 STI After a lot of thinking and researching into both cars, my options changed and building my STI was no longer in the cards so I could either keep the car and attempt to get warranty work done or trade in the car and have them fix it for the next owner and get an EVO X so that made the decision easy Parting out my car took all of 2 days and taking off my Crawford AOS was out of my technical skills and I didn't want to reroute anything incorrectly so I left that on there as a goodie for the next owner :P It was pretty depressing driving around a bone stock STI going from 362AWHP and 411AWTQ but it was also relieving to know that that headache was finally over. Due to the car's condition I only got 31k for it which is a steal in my opinion considering it was a fully loaded limited but I just though that cutting my losses and moving forward was the best move in this situation since I will be needing to do a lot of driving in the coming weeks. I am hoping to go pick up my 2014 EVO X today or tomorrow from South Coast or Huntington beach, I just have to decide between the infamous Wicked White or Rally Red! I appreciate everyone that responded to this thread and am glad to soon be a part of the EVO community! I just hope that the EVO treats me better than the STI did

If anyone is still using this thread, I would ask what the cons are of the STI for you and if the X would take care of those for you. For instance, is handling a feature you would like to improve on the STI? If so look closer at that? I switched myself and couldn't be happier. Either way, watch the Top Gear UK vid on YouTube, it helped me decide after, of course, a test drive. Good luck!
