I like how the Evo is unlike anything else. The 4B11 will be used in some Chrysler and Hyundai products. How would it be having a Tiburon driver come up to you in your Evo X and say "Hey, I just bought a turbo and now I'm just like an Evo!!"
Hopefully they are the same just like evo and the eclipse are the same.

Even that's different. Sure the DSM motor is very similar, but it's 100% backwards. Even the turbos don't match up, because they spin the other way or something.

The DSM motor was originally a 4g63 that the "dsm" (chrysler and mitsu) screwed with to make it work for the US market.

OK...I'm going to be retarded for a second. I've owned my VIII for 3 years and know the strengths and benefits of the 4G63. Mitsu must as well. That said, why is everyone so afraid of the 4B11? Bear in mind I know nothing about the 4B11, but have heard that modding will be difficult.

Can anyone explain why this is such a bad thing and why the brilliant Doctor Evo would drop this new engine instead of the proven 4G63?

I hope someone makes a motor that will mate up with the tranny. It is suppose to handle better, but without power to put down there is no point. Maybe mitsu is just hidding the Evo X behind the 4B11 and will come out with another car or motor that will make a perfect swap? This is very depressing considering I was looking into buying an evo after college. Now it looks like I have to hope to find a VIII or IX.

no no guys chill

READ!

1. gema engines only share the engine block and production related stuff to water down the cost of making them

2. mitsubishi has a newly built state of the art gema engine factory in Shiga, Japan, hyundai has one in korea, chrysler 2 in michigan

3. all mitsubishi's gema engines will be built by japanese workers with japanese engineers in Shiga, Japan

4. only mitsubishi's gema engines have Mivec and other mitsu techology,
hyundai has it's own variable valve tehnology, as does chrysler

5. there for, mitsubishis engines will have mitsubishis engine codes lol
why? read 1,2,3,4

so don't worry
4B11 will ROCK!!!!

Good find on this info, BTW. My bro just picked up an Evo IX SE and I confirmed this in the brochure he has. Crazy stuff.

IIRC the early Evos had the same flip-flopped 4G63 as the Eclipses up until the Evo IV. Also, I'm pretty sure Hyundai used naturally-aspirated 4G63 motors back in the early '90's. My friend swapped a Hyundai valve cover onto his Talon's built 4G63 for a laugh. Any way, I wouldn't get to bent out of shape about the 4G63's demise until we see what this new motor is all about. It could be a monster.

How long do you think it will take the aftermarket community to catch up to the point where they are now for the 4G63?

I mean, is there ANYTHING you CANT get for the 4G63 as it sits for the Evos now???

I personally think that its kind of exciting about the prospect of a new generation engine. Plus everything about the X is different, why not the engine. Im sure they know there stuff, if not I just wont buy one simple as that. Like fireball said what cant we get for the evo 8's and soon enough 9's! I hope for mitsu's sake its worth the hype.

That really sucks because I heard from Motor Trend and other car mags that the new power plant will probably be an aluminum block.
