It's Official: 2006 Last 4G63, New Evo X Engine: 4B11T
After thinking about it for awhile, the evo is the pinnical of Mitsu enthusiasts. The people at mitsu must know that the enthusiasts want more, and they must also know that if the put out a poor product there will be a huge decline in sales from the enthusiasts and the track teams that run rallying. Hopefully, then have come up with a new motor, that at first glance resembles others, but will dominate all. After all someone has to kill those STi's!

Ask your self this question, has Mitsu ever come out with an Evo worse then the previous one, NO! It always evolves into something better. So I guess Dr. Evo decided to retire the 4G63 after so many years and is ready to move on to a better motor. I'm not worried.

Seems like everybody here is doubting or smartert than Dr. Evo. Maybe he should join the forums and take notes, or better yet he should fire his team of engineers and higher you guys,

Glad i got my IX... I finally have something rare...
maybe my value will rise!
This is no suprise to me at all. I've said it and believed this for months, but people will believe whatever the want I suppose, even after the car comes out there will still be confusion.
That is not exactly true. All 4G63's found originally under the hood of Mitsubishi are made in Japan, including ones in Plymouth and Eagle branded turbo DSMs. The 1G motor was very close to the Galant VR-4 engine. The 2G motor is like an Evo III engine. Yes, by "screwed with" you could mean that the injectors were different, the turbos were different and in a few cases the intake manifolds were revised, but only because of the different power ratings of the cars. 195 and 210 for DSMs vs 250+ for early Evos.
But there was no dumbing down or screwing with of the engines that made them bastardized Chrysler 4G63's. Chrysler had nothing to do with turbo DSM powertrain development.
Hyundai designs have always been cribbed Mitsu designs, at least for the last 20 years or so. Even their newest engines and chassis are based on Mitsu tech. Whereas in the early 90's they cast their own 4G63/4s for Sonatas and Excels.
The World Engine may be new, but Mitsubishi working with Chrysler and Hyundai isn't and goes back as far as 1970. The fact that it is going to keep some of you up at night because the basic deisgn of an engine is going to be whored out among three (or four if you count Kia) companies to save dollars is rediculous when you consider Mitsu is fighting for survival and bringing us this car at all is a blessing. Each company is going to build their own version of it, in their own factories.

I have faith in Mitsubishi and Dr. Evo. I believe that technology makes things better. Look at Honda with their K-series engines. Everyone said the same about them getting rid of the B-series engine, they were so great, etc. etc. but the K-series engine is better in every respect. Same with the new Evo engine. I LOVE my IX MR and do not see any chance of trading on a X but I do believe that it will be a better car. I believe the engine will be great also. Relax everybody and enjoy the future!!

interesting, lets hope mitsu does a good job and knows what they are doing with the new engine
but seriously, mitsu must know that if they **** it up their sales will fall...ALOT, so i dont think they'll get it wrong even the evo X still looks ugly to me....i would much rather own an IX or VIII and from what i hear its gonna be pricier than the IX as well by atleast a few thousand

i think this new motor will do everything better ( reliable , driveable, useable powerband and tuning , economy ) .....BUT for the hardcore racer looking for over 500awhp the 4g63 will remain top.....hopefully this doesn't effect evo8 and evo9 sales too positively as i want to buy another for daily use.....lol
Agree with prind0, Evolution = change for the better.
Why do some of you have such little faith in the very car maker that puts the smile on your face everytime you boost? It's gonna happen with or without you!

Same as Porsche
This situation will be very much like what Porsche experienced a few years back when they switched from air cooled engines to water cooled engines. You have the old school rock heads who said the new cars were crap and you had the guys driving the newer cars blowing the doors off the guys with the old cars. Yes, it will be different. Yes, you will have some guys who will hate the new engine but that is the whole point of the Evo to Evolve and get better. I am pretty confident that the new car will be unreal.
