It's Official: 2006 Last 4G63, New Evo X Engine: 4B11T
The switching to a different motor is defintily not a good thing. Like said before, I believe that its going to be the same situation as the 2nd gen eclipse to the 3rd gen eclipse. The second gen turbo eclipse was the **** car to have. 4g63 turbo! Then ****ing it up with the 3rd gen eclipse. Now, the evo is the new car to have. 4g63 turbo! Repalcing the engine good be bad news. History tends to repeat itself. Buy your evo 8 or 9 4g63 while they last, becuase its very hard right now to find a good 2nd gen eclipse turbo. Soon, the 4g63 turbo evo will be lost.
evo x
the evo x will still have a 4g63 made of iron, but with a more responsive engine than a IX and will have around 380hp and a sh-awd system
it will most likely come out at around the time when the r35 gtr skyline comes out
found this out from mitisubishi service

My friend swapped a Hyundai valve cover onto his Talon's built 4G63 for a laugh. Any way, I wouldn't get to bent out of shape about the 4G63's demise until we see what this new motor is all about. It could be a monster.

The Elantra had the 4G63.
The brochure is real, i work at a Mitsu dealer and i got one. As much as i hate to say it, it is a time for change but i'll be honest, i prolly won't get the X because i'm not sure if they are goin to have it as manual or paddle shift option and i don't want that paddle ****, i think if they are gonna do that then it might as well be auto. thats jus my opinion though.

First of all I don't know why so many guys seem to be surprised that 4G63 will be retired after Evo IX when it has been known for a couple of weeks now (http://www.mitsubishi-motors.co.jp/evo/index.html).
Second of all, don't compare Eclipse to the Evo, first and foremost Eclipse was built for the American market only, where Evo has always been a global product. Eclipse never really was the motorsports dominating car like the Lancer Evo or Pajero (those two cars have a rally heritage where Eclipse doesn't).
Third of all, aluminum engines, it's where all automotive companies are heading, aluminum actually is more expensive than iron so it's not like comapnies are doing this to save money, aluminum weights a lot less, it conducts heat a lot better than iron (so it will never reach the maximum temperature that the same iron cast engine would've reached), aluminum when properly shaped is as strong as iron, and even Ferrari is using all-aluminum engines instead of cast iron (as they used to do) so I guess aluminum does offer something more than iron does.
Fourth of all, Evo X will be the best Evo to date.

What people fail to understand is this is probably not Dr. Evo's decision. This decision was made to increase shareholders wealth between three very big auto makers; the last thing they have in mind is a niche product that sells a few thousand units a year.
IMHO, it has been much of an evolutionary change since the 6 TME. In fact, many abroad have complained about the car getting larger and less agile.
Just so we're clear, I love my 8 but its no 6. I've driven both and the only improvment I can see is build quality. Everything else is better or at least equal in the 6. Yeah, yeah, I'm comparing a sedan to coupe, but does anyone honestly think that was Dr. Evo's decision too?
The point is, the general trend seems to be that the evo is seeing more compromises with every iteration. I think the Evo team at Mitsu are just trying to stay true to the formula while faced with corporate cost cutters.

I've been viewin the Japan site for about 5 months now so i knew a long time ago that this was the last 4G63 and I agree wid u about everything except the last thing. That depends on who is sayin it, i personally don't think it's gonna be the best, personally i think the V is the "best", then the IX, and then the VII after that. If u wanna tell which Evo is best then go by how many rally races that model has won or records it's broken not by the features it's gonna have. I'm sure its gonna be bad *** but there are things that i don't like about it like i've stated b4. Whether i like it or not I won't consider it the best untill i see results. For all we know it maybe great on the street but in the rally might not perform as well as the IX, u never know.
