aluminum can become a handicap for the amount of power the engine can put out if i am not mistaken. (in respect to modding)

The 4B11t is already set in stone... err, aluminum. It's a 2.0L, aluminum block, aluminum head, MIVEC, 16v, Turbo.

Everyone is flipping out for no reason. Every time Mitsu introduces a new product the whole evom community protests until it comes out then everyone loves it.

Ask your self this question, has Mitsu ever come out with an Evo worse then the previous one, NO! It always evolves into something better. So I guess Dr. Evo decided to retire the 4G63 after so many years and is ready to move on to a better motor. I'm not worried.

I remember when the 8 was just coming out and everyone was declaring that mitsubishi was ruining the evo by adding the triangle to the front end. Now people love the look. Same deal with MIVEC, people were worried about it causing serious problems with tuning and the aftermarket community. I'm sure once people actually get there hands on the new engine, opinions will change.

i am definitely glad i have my 8 ....but i won't write off the 4B11T yet ..... aluminum can be made rather strong depending on casting....we will see.

My friend swapped a Hyundai valve cover onto his Talon's built 4G63 for a laugh. Any way, I wouldn't get to bent out of shape about the 4G63's demise until we see what this new motor is all about. It could be a monster.
Hyundai bought manufacturing rights in the mid 80's to the Mitsu balance shaft fours and the 3L V6. Sonata came with V6 starting about '88 or 89 . When they first came out, the obvius difference was the intake manifold on the 4 cyl. Alum on Mitsu's, plastic ( nylon i believe ) on Sonata. I was shopping at the time and bought a 1987 Galant rather than the Sonata after seeing the manifold.

The NA Hyundai was a 2.3 L .

4G63 > 4B11 for at least a few years.
cast iron block > aluminum block..........strength wise at least.

Umm...I dont think that the run-of-the mill base lancer, hyundais, or chrysler versions of this engine will have the internals the Evo's version will recieve. Not to mention 100s of differences in cams, head, compression ratio, manifolds, electronics, etc.

Anyone with a basic "econo" 4B11 will not be able to just "bolt a turbo" onto it and have as good of a motor. Maybe it'll make the power of a stock evo, but it will definately NOT have the potential beyond that.

Plus, it's time for the 4g to go. Direct injection rocks! And....some Dodge variants will be a 2.4l, which gives us some stroking and boring options in the future.

holy sh*t, good find!

damn so the 4g63 is no more... it'll take a while for the aftermarket of the X to catch up to the VIII and IX's in the US, but hopefully it will be a beast. not sure how much more beastly a 2.0 liter engine can get though....in regards to the 4g63 that is.

at least aluminum block implies some weight saving...hopefully Mitsu doesn't go ape sh*t and make the X all luxurious and weigh it down even more...if the X can tip the scale at 3000 lbs or even less that'd make a scary track monster IMO.

and yea the 4B11T sounds weaksauce compared to 4G63 haha. let's just pray that Mitsu doesn't screw up the X...

ppl have more rights to be worried about the X compared to the VIII's traingle and IX's mivec...after all it's a COMLETELY different engine for the first time in what, 14 years?

but i agree, give it time and give it a chance. this is perfect...i'll keep my IX till the X has enough aftermarket to be a much better car, or i can just keep my IX
