Death of the EVO!!!
What everyone seems to be missing is that there is a huge-- huge-- difference between a standard planetary gear/torque converter automatic and what Mitsubishi will be putting into the X.
No torque converter sapping power and response. No second-long upshifts or downshifts. Modern dual-clutch sequential manuals shift faster than any human, perform perfect rev-matched downshifts every time, and never miss a shift or grind the gears.
If performance is what you want, this is the transmission to get. This is why they were first developed for racing cars.
Now, some people may prefer the do-it-yourself feel of a standard manual transmission, and that's fine; you could argue that the personality of the Evo is better suited to a standard manual. There might even be some grumbling that now anyone can drive the car, no special skills needed.
But don't delude yourself-- in otherwise identical cars, the guy with the DSG will win every time.

The faster my lap time the more fun I will be having. Speed is all I care about. If a fully automatic transmission will give me a faster lap time that's what I will choose as my weapon of choice. The faster and more efficient weapon the better. That is what the Evo has always been about. Going faster.

Whichever is faster is what I'll be buying.
That is only on the 911 Turbo, and the auto is only faster than the manual, because Porsche artifically increases the boost on the auto version for marketing reasons. It is not faster due to the auto tranny (which is very boring to drive)
Man whatever the evo comes in paddle shifted or manual, im taking whatever option makes me like the car more and puts the real power and doesnt wear as much down.
Its an evolution, it shouldnt be stuck in the dark ages because people cant change to its rally inspired architecture.
Evolve with it or stay stuck in time.... Im just happy they got some navi/bluetooth and it looks alot more refreshing. I would get mad if they decided to stay with the same design and call it the next gen evo as they did with the VIII and XI (throw in mivec and change a few curves on the front and rear ends).

Seriously though, if they got the transmission right, it could be a lot of fun. That aside, I still think they goofed up as the new car is quite a bit larger and has the front end of a Volvo only better looking.
are you serius?
