Whos not buying an X? for whatever reason
It's like what would you rather get an 03/04 cobra that can get silly power easily and are still holding their value. Or a Gt500 that is way more expensive and alot heavier? And not as awesome as the terminator IMO. Plus those terminator's(which are Iron Blocks) people are swapping in turbo's and getting some sick numbers out of them 750-800 HP level. You'd probably have a hole in an aluminum block handling that kind of pressure. I mean these High HP Evo's are boosting 50+ Psi which is just plain nuts. Also, even though the current Evo is an Iron Block, it's still lighter than the estimated weight of the Evo X's(which is estimated at 34-3500 lbs) and those will have aluminum blocks. I'd rather just keep my evo and get a bike or something.
the LS series engines still are 350 cubic inches the main difference is that the LS engines have individual coil packs for each cylinder. and i think theyre aluminium blocks but im not sure, gm didnt completely go away from the 350 they just refined it. this new evo engine is completly different in a ton of ways but i give it a year and itll be bad a$$ just like the 4g63 it just needs to prove itself and earn its keep.
I hated the look of the evo X at first but it is starting to grow on me. But since it is on new platform I'll would wait couple years for them to work out the bugs. I'm not too concerned about the new 4B11 aluminum block, I just hope they keep the rawness of the evo's and not turn this into a luxury sedan.

Some of the bigger points:
Symmetrical head design, rather than the odd/even mirroring of the old chevy heads.
12degree valve angle, better than the Winston Cup racing heads that were in use at the time. This allowed for airflow on par if not better than most OHC engines, but with fewer moving parts.
Composite intake, nearly eliminates heat-soak.
One coil-pack per cyl as you mentioned.
New firing order to smooth out idle.
All AL block with 6-bolt, cross-bolted mains and a deep skirt to further increase strength.
And that was just the first generation LS1, not any of the subsequent revisions or derivatives (LS6, LS7, etc). Believe me, for all the people that are reqretting the passing of the 4G63, there were TONS more for the passing of the old 350. That engine was put into almost everything and had a history MUCH longer than the 4G63. What I was saying was that everything thought the LS1 was the end of big power and versatility. They were very, very wrong. And I think the 4B11 will prove similar.
The LSx series engine's have such a high displacement engine though 5.7 liters, It could make easy power because of how much displacement it has. Compared to the new 4B11 which will STILL be 2.0 liters. I mean you really can't push the envelope any further. If the car was receiving more displacement I could see it probably being better but it's still going to be a 2 liter. So why not just stick with an already proven 2 liter that has already reached such great success in the tuning world.

Also, mitsubishi had hit the limit of power with the 4G63 while meeting the standards set for Efficiency and Emissions. Remember, manufacturers are under much stricter requirements than the end user. The 4B11 will let Mitsu meet the standards set by the government and allow for future growth.
As for the LS's displacement. So? That really has nothing to do with my point. I was comparing the *CHANGE* of the LS1 over the iron 350 to the change that's now taking place with the 4B11. My point was that the LS1 was an improvement in nearly *every* way over the old engine, and more than likely so will the 4B11.
right now, i do not like the X because it does not have that wide body that the current evos have. but i don't know, it may grow on me once it comes out. but right now, i would not trade my viii to the x.
i think the top of the line evo 10 will break 40k and the base model being more priced around the mr version; at least 32k plus
