Problem with TC SST / Why 5 MT ?
Reading the November 2007 Motor mag in Australia Journalist... David Morley pointed out a few potentially concerning issues and theorys with the EVO X .
With the TC SST He states :
"The only glitch i can see is a tendency for the gearbox to get hot and start short-shifting in deference to its oil temperature ( two cars did it to me and it wasnt a particularly hot day )
Should this be a concern for TC SST OWNERS ?..........what do you guys think ?
About the 5MT gearbox he says .
"Mitsubishis engineers reckon weight is the reason for the move from six back to five cogs , but the more cynical among us (me,for instance)......smell a different sort of rodent .
Think about it : if you have gone to the trouble of developing a whizz-bang new clutchless box ,you have to make sure that its quicker than a conventional manual right ?
So the best way to do that is to hobble the regular manual gearbox by spacing the gears further apart ."
Has Mitsubishi deliberately HOBBLED the manual in order to make the TC SST Faster ? What do you guys think ?
Cheers

Remember that the TCSST gearbox is still undergoing final testing since its not completely tuned yet. I'm sure that when it goes on sale (only the 5 speed M/T is being sold at the moment) it will be as good if not even better than VWs DSG.
At 4000 rpms the speed is 82.8 at 4000 rpm with the 5 speed manual.
This was computed using the speed/rpm calculator at:
http://www.car-videos.com
It's correct. You input tire size, gear ratios, and rear differential gear and you get 82.8 mph in fifth. I've used it many times and it produces "spot on" results.
By the way, the SST will provide 93.8 mph in sixth at 4000 rpm.
This isn't good.
Interesting take, certainly logical altho' a bit of a conspiracy theory. The other issue is the fact that the Evo X has (so far) been proven to be faster than only the USDM IX on a roadcourse. The USDM IX is really a crippled version compared to the JDM IX (which I do get here in my home country). Until Best Motoring comes up with a video of back to back testing of the X against the JDM IX, I will remain unconvinced of the new car's worth.

The autos can't last 10 minutes even with an OE transmission cooler on a road track ..
Anyways .. if you didn't hear about it .. the SSTs were recalled before sale .. now launch for the SST is delayed again ..
That is a true concern .. I think the techs can't have overlooked this?? they have 2 versions of the automatic evos and they still didn't learn anything about it ?????

Sorry. Wrong. But close.

you sure is 82.8 and not 82.7986? Go check again!

I heard that there was a 2 month delay , guess it makes sense now , they may be having overheating problems .
The reviews state that the launch control was not ready or tuned therefore I can reasonably infer that it was a prototype. What is up with some of you distorting every damn thing to make the X look bad.
What else is interesting is that not a single review i've seen yet clocked the evo the proper way to get 0-60 or 1/4 mile times. Every mag says the 5 sec or whatever time they got was from either looking at their watch or it was told to them by the mitsu reps. Asians are very humble and rarely exagerate when it comes to launching new models' specs.
Their mentality is to wow and impress after you buy something; rather than the typical american mentality of hype marketing where you receive a product and realize how weak it is.
