Lancer Evolution XI goes hybrid [merge]
^ Thats the big reason why the Evo is said to be going down hill, The IX had some WRC mind in its chassis while the X had pretty much none. I really think the lack of motor sports involvement is what's hurting Mitsubishi's ability to truly improve on the Evo.
They are making the evo less and less affordable with these higher end models like the MR touring. They should introduce a fully stripped besides having automatic windows RS starting at 28k. That should be the entry level evo and get rid of the MR touring and make those options on the regular MR. They should really just create a beast of a evo before this 35mpg kicks in.
Its almost like the grand finale so to speak. Keep the hp levels the same reduce weight allowing the evo to do 0-60 in 4.6-4.7 with a moderate improvement in handling capabilities. Create the option of a six speed in a lighter MR with the amenities such as the sunroof as a option. RS: 0-60:4.6 GSR & MR:4.7-4.8 to me would be the ideal evo lineup.
This is very possible and a smart move your are catering to both crowds by introducing the car in street/track standard form with the luxury amenities as an option for those who want more luxury thus a heavier evo. How they would do it is up to them maybe make the options cheaper to balance the price out or combine the options as packages I dont know. I think they need to do something performance wise cus it looks like they are heading in the wrong direction

if they're switching to this powertrain they will definitely not be offering a 4b11 variant on the side - i wonder what's going to happen to evo production as of right now - will it keep going on from now until 2011, 2012?
i think i'll stick with saving up for the final MY e92 m3 =]

The problem here is that they are calling it a Hybrid. So many of us think of a Prius or SUV. If instead it was marketed as energy recovery and electric motor boost perhaps some would not get so angry. Many thought turbos on gas engines was wrong and showed that the engine manufacturer could not build a proper engine because it lacked optimum volumetric efficiency and needed the turbo as a crutch. We know that not to be true. Change is not always good but if the Evo is a turbo diesel with an electric motor bring it on! I think the biggest disappointment mitsu can give us a an even heavier Evo...that's something to get mad about.
Gonna have to second the idea that it looks better than a X. I would buy a hybrid if it had the performance. Huge torque potential from electric motors. I remember a lot of the same arguments when cubic inches started disappearing, and i dont think anyone on here would argue that small displacement motors work for performance.
