Lancer Evolution XI goes hybrid [merge]
I never understood the point of gas saving super cars when they cost more money then you'll ever even spend on gas in your lifetime. If you have enough money to buy a exotic Porche why would you care if it saved gas lol...mind blowing oxymoron. Only rich pretentious people would actually buy gas saving super cars. There I said, dont shoot me.

It's all about "Marketing" and "Image". All auto manufacturers are jumping in on the "environmental" bandwagon, the brands that refuse to go with the trend will be left behind. Mitsubishi is no exception, they are just trying to put up a good image & make a profit. Is that really hard to understand? Seriously.

^ I never claimed that hybrids are really any "greener" than your average econobox (like a Corolla?). It's just that so much marketing has been invested in the hybrid "badge" that a big majority of car buyers actually believe it is one of the answers in the fight against global warming.
Until they release a car that runs on air (yes, there are engines that run on compressed air), I'll stick with the good ole internal combustion engine. Hybrids are a farce. Until we can produce clean electricity, so are electric cars.

Batteries, on the other hand, are constructed once and then the majority of the materials can be recycled. If you look at the top of a Prius battery, you'll find a toll-free Toyota phone number you can call to send the battery in for recycling, and Toyota will send you a reward for doing so ($150 from what I've heard).
The M3 vs. Prius track test was good entertainment, no doubt, but entirely specious when it comes to discussing hybrids. The vast majority of M3 owners will never even see a track, instead using their performance car to get from point A to B, which is where the Prius absolutely excels.
I, for one, am excited to see what Mitsubishi comes up with. Really, though, I feel like there are plenty of steps that could be taken between the current gas-guzzling motor and a full-on hybrid. The Evo X's gas consumption is utterly ridiculous relative to other vehicles on the market. Even Hyundai has developed a 270HP+ 2.0 liter turbo that gets 30+ MPG on the freeway. I still can't believe Mitsubishi and Subaru haven't adopted direct injection, for example.

red...... Evo or death tyvm
