Evolution MR - Mitsubishi Racing [MERGED]
Of course it's easier for your beanstalk body to fit in those big muscle cars, Rich.
Seriously, Ricardon is right. We are living in glorious times to be a car lover. I mean, look at Mercedes and the CL 65 - 612 hp in a luxury coupe??? Awesome... V8s in mid-size cars (S4, C55, etc.). Good stuff.

OMG!! The beanstalk comments made it all the way out to VA from SoCal??? Damn, my reputation stretches about as long as my.....
Whaddup Chris! You need to come back to Cali brother, the scene is getting rediculous out here! Too bad the police don't like cars as much as we do...grrrrrrrrrrrr.

Could it be that
's allocation of 1,500 '04 Evo 8 units could be a sign wherein
is giving more emphasis/priority for a MR debute. Think about it. If they brought in more or the same number of non-RS/MR Evos in '04 they could be left idle as everyone gobbles up a MR. Heck I would if the price difference was just 5 grand.

Or maybe it will be the HKS Rally-spec Evolution that they talked about in Road & Track's Speed.
Just a correction to the earlier posted C&D report. I quoted it below to be more accurate. Their report seems to be more like a rumor or speculation for another Evo. It could be the MR. It could also be a GT-A.
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution MR
While Mitsubishi has no press conference scheduled, word is that the brand plans to announce an addition to its Lancer Evolution lineup. Could Japan’s recently introduced MR version — replete with more power, a six-speed manual, an active center differential, an aluminum roof, and forged BBS wheels — be coming stateside? Enthusiasts, start praying.
Again I apologize for the error. My enthusiasm got the better of me.

Evo MR
Yeah, the RS is pretty much useless...unless you're building a racer that is your weekend race machine for the track....then it's a good no-bones, no-frills option.
I've pretty much mulled this over in my mind, read this entire thread (ok, I skipped some of the months-ago stuff in the middle) and after two days of thinking on this (and literally had a dream about it yesterday) I've come to this conclusion:
I must have an MR.
I cannot fathom spending 15-thousand dollars building the evo when I've got the MR waiting in the wings.
My resale value of my evo is best if I don't touch it. I'm not even wanting to put any more miles on it. I just want an MR.
I love the SAYC. (I know, I've never even driven it and all that, but I grew to love the Evo from reading about it...never having driven it...and what-do-ya-know, it's a great handling car) I want SAYC, I don't care how many people want to say it's all garbage...I still want it since I first read about how it works and what it does.
I love the grey color...and no, NOT because it's something different...because I like that color better than any we currently have. That color is awsome.
I want the 6-speed. I don't care if you want to poo-poo that also...whatever...I want it....we can race later. If stuff breaks, I'll fix it, rebuild it, whatever. I'm going to mod like hell and from everything I've heard from the experienced....stuff is going to break and I'm going to have to fix it...otherwise I'm just really lucky.
Plus, I like Al Friedman's theory of drivetrain: Don't slam the crap out of it and it may hold together ok...even with huge HP...if carefully applied, it can take a LOT...just not a lot of sudden jolts off the line (dropping the clutch at high RPM is not necessary to post fast times...per Al who's done some fast times without breaking a lot of trannys)
The drivetrain for the MR will likely be a little tougher to hold up to the increased stock torque. That's tough to build into a "regular" evo...all the components of the drivetrain.
I want the aluminum roof. That rocks. Can't do that aftermarket either (well...anything can be done, but c'mon
)
I want the aluminum side-impact guards and all the other little weight adjustments to get the center of gravity lower.
I love those MR seats. Sooooo cool. The entire interior is just a little nicer.
There is just no way I can see myself going without the MR. I'm seriously considering selling my Evo that I just got a few weeks ago so that I can start hunting for a house to garage my MR.
I am pretty certain this thing will come to us. Mitsu has it figured out now after they got the wake-up from the original WRX sales. They're bringing it. If, by some incredible idiocy, they don't...it can be imported because now it WILL qualify under the "essentially the same as an existing approved model in the US" crash category (unlike the Evo VII's that Evolution Imports brought over without being able to apply for that exemption). That'd be a pain and some serious extra cost, but it'll certainly be importable and LEGALLY registerable. Don't want to have to do that, but I think the chances of the MR not coming are about the same as the chances that Subaru will go back to the 2.0 L for the next version of the Sti.
I know this is the endless cycle of next great thing, but really...with it only months away, and me looking at getting a house in the near future with a garage...and with the plan to do the heads and likely stroker kit and all...who can blame me for wanting to start with an MR instead.
Well, thanks for letting me rant. At least my fanatacism isn't waning. I broke up with a girl recently and it was really bothering me for a while. Last night I was sitting there thinking about the MR....and it suddenly dawned on me...I hadn't been thinking about her much all day
....what a phenomenon this Evo is!!

I'm going to NY auto show next weekend. It'd nice if I can get the tickets for pre-show on Friday, have to work some contacts.
I think the most important questions will be answered there and then.
If they fail to mention the mr then it's not coming to US, at least not this year.
