My conversation with Mitsu USA Product Planning re: the MR EDITION
oh wow, why not just source out the parts that you guys want? at least the important options are available already such as the lsd, 6-speed, im ammused by the losing weight comments regarding the seats, because its true!........
simple question...since the headlights aren't blacken out, i will go ahead and do them myself but wanted to ask if anyone had problems with cops or DOTS because of this issue? ya ya i know lights should be my last motive in getting the car. then again mit. didn't bring the black lights for a reason. has anyone who done it had any problems with the law because of it?
Sorry if I'm offensive but you guys are basically *****ing about some cosmetic differences. The performance goodies are still coming w/ the MR and that's what is important. If you cared so much about looks and less about performance you shouldn't be buying an Evo in the first place.[/QUOTE]
Just because you will settle for 1/2 a pie doesn't mean everyone else is the same.
Personally performance is #1 in my books - but I would be a bore if I didn't like good looks too!!! Hell - I think deserve both!
I have seen pictures of both versions side by side and the Jap MR looks sooo much better with those dark lights and seats - it's really a night and day difference.
Sure we don't NEED them, but then again ALOT of people want them and can't see any reason why MItsubishi will not give us what we want and are willing to pay for!

awdmofo has it right and I support his reasoning 100%. You guys are whining about cosmetic items. The only performance item we don't get here is the S-AYC, big deal. I applaud Mitsu for bringing the car here considering its current financial situation. Stop whining or move to Japan where you can buy the JDM version.
Thank you Mitsubishi for supporting the U.S. market and don't listen to the haters.

Neil - with all due respect - that is a load.
1st - This forum is about Evo lovers!
We are all here because we support this car and
2nd. When last I checked this is a Japanese car!!! and that 's how we want it. Like the jap spec!

You'll need the whole package to work, not just the seats. Honestly, a 10 years old accord has a better interior than the evo.
You left out a very important word, Evos are supposed to be all about "CHEAP" performance, and the word "cheap" doesn't quite work with the word "luxury".
Fine, wait for the evo IX, mitsubishi might listen and bring in leather seat for the "special" US customer. But I can gurantee you that it will still have a POS interior because evo is based on the next generation $13000 econobox Lancer.

I'm an Evo fan and want it to kick a$$ in both looks and performance.
Plus if leather is available on BASE model Evo - why can't it be an option on MR for those who prefer it?!

Would you sell many Evos if they had all those luxury items and cost 40 - 45K?

the 6 speed is the only item which would be hard to add to an 05 RS, even though it looks like it will be faster around a race track, its not as strong as the 5 speed. magazines can afford to blow a tranny to test a car once in a while, i cant. i will sacrifice the few tenth of a seconds i gain with the 6 speed for a longer lasting, stronger tranny. besides, i can add a lot more seconds with a few power add ones and still end up spending a lot less then the MR
So basically, you will have MR RS 5-speed with 500 hp for the price of an MR 6 speed with 300 hp :P

I don't know how you do your calculation, You won't save any money to mod the RS to be an MR RS because according to price in japan, the difference is $6k.
Wheels will cost you $2500
CF wing and vortex is $1000
Bilstein is $2000
you still don't have the 6 speed box for fuel economy or for whatever reason.

No more warranty coverage
So how are you saving alot of money????
Let say you got all the mod for $6K. The MR GSR is still only """0.12 sec""" slower than MR RS. For myself, i would not trade in all those "BASIC AMENTIES" for 0.12 sec off my lap times. Unless if my Evo will be strictly use on track and use for competition. Its too much trade off for too little gain.
Now, honestly, if you really say you are willing to give up all the followings for 0.12 seconds faster around track? Your are really awesome. I guess you are a true car enthusiat and I am a true poseur.

We all bought these things because mitsu can package this isht up cheaper/better than we can build it aftermarket, or we'd all have turbo'd lancers. They (Mitsu) have stayed true to the philosophy of spending money on the mechanicals and just enought to make everything else bearable. I supose this may put me in the #2 catagory but F' it! I feel they deserve some props for having the nuts to get said philosophy into producton and into the US, inspite of a fikle market pre-ocupied with non-driver oriented perceived value. Thanks to all the people at Mitsu fighting the good fight! I hope the rest of em' get/got fired.
Go buy an Audi or you will be condemed to cause your dealer problems and complain on the internet... I see it all the time. #2 #2!!!!

How about a little taste section? The Advans taste like Advans... hmmm the Blisteins have a bolder flavor than the stock shocks.

Personally, I can't wait until some brave magazine compares the USDM Evo MR Edition with the USDM 2005 STi on the dragstrip, on a road course, and for everyday use. That would be an issue I'd actually buy rather than just reading it at the airport newsstand.
