Something's wrong.

I'm not sure why my car doesn't want to make boost. I took out the Profec B and SAFC to install the UTEC. I was running 21psi with the profec and the car was making decent power. I installed my UTEC and now it's slow as hell. It is not the UTEC's fault though. For some reason, I am only able to make 13psi. I don't get it.

Here is a little background. I previously used the Profec for a boost guage. It worked pretty well since it has some nice peak functions. I went and bought an autometer boost guage to keep in the glove box for tuning since I want to have no guages visible in the car at all. I want it to look 100% stock. I also wanted to try to avoid the ABC for a cleaner install. I figured that 19-20psi to redline is plenty with that other additional features on the UTEC.

I removed the Profec and SAFC. The Profec was tapped for the guage at the fuel pressure line. I'd rather tap somewhere else, but it was working fine for the last 6 months. I tapped the autometer boost guage in the same spot and it only showed 12psi. No wonder the car is so slow. I went home and added the ABC out of curiousity since the map shows 100% BCS duty cycle at 100% TPS. I installed the ABC and I ended up cranking it wide open. Eight full turns and i am still only running 13psi. I don't get it. I have the cacuum lines exactly how they are diagramed on the underside of the hood and in the UTEC manual. It makes no sense to me. It was fine with the Profec, so I know nothing is mechanically wrong with the turbo. I haven't taken anything apart, so there should be no additional boost leaks now. I just don't get it.

Here is a log of a modified map. Look at my MAF signal. I see other people are seeing around 1700hz or more. That's what I was running before. Now I am lucky to see 1400hz.

did you happen to remove the factory vaccum lines to install your profec boost controller?

That was my guess. There is a restrictor that has to be in the right place or the boost control system isn't going to work well.

In the EVO there are two restrictor pills. The line off the compressor cover MUST have one of them and the second one is in the line running to the factory boost control solenoid. The second one can be removed to allow for higher boost pressure, but the removal of the first one will result in boost pressure being limited to right around your waste-gate spring pressure.

I had them removed, but they are back to a stock configuration now.

Take a look and double check that you got the restrictor in the line coming from the compressor cover.

If it is there, then go into your UTEC boost map and at the low throttle positions type in a duty cycle of 75% from 500rpm to 2000rpms save the map and exit to the UTEC home screen.

Then pop the hood and stick your ear by the factory boost control solenoid. If it is not clicking, it's dead and that will be the source of your problem.

That makes sense. I *think* I am using the factory lines except for the 4mm line you supplied. The restrictor is between the compressor and the "T"?

I am almost sure that there is not one there. That must be the issue. Thanks guys!! I'll be sure to let you know once I take a look tonight.

It looks like the restrictor was the issue. Thanks again guys! I couldn't find the restrictor from the shorter compressor hose, so I used the one fro the longer hose. I am not able to make 19pis without the ABC, but it can at least be turned up to get back there. I am guessing that the original restrictor might be smaller than the one I am using. I'll have to go order the vacuum hose kit from Mitsu to see if that makes it any better.

I am a little slow on the Utec lingo, but can or cant we use a MBC with the Utec. I am currently using dynoflash as my method of tuning, but my upgrade path in the next 2 months is becoming rapid and I def dont want to add a afr/afc. I am pretty knowledgeable with these but i am now looking to upgrade to the Utec. From reading around I have heard nothing but good things from this unit. I am getting pretty excited with this unit I am just afraid that I am going to need someone to help me with the system at first to become comfortable with the Utec.

I don't see why you couldn't use a EBC/MBC. I would just set the boost map on the UTEC to 0 all across the load ranges.

I was alittle frustrated on Saturday morning because it wasn't running as well as before, but I had only had it in the car for a few hours when I took it to autocross. After some time with it, I am already getting it running pretty well. After some dyno time, it should be set up pretty well with a few maps for different situations.

You can use an EBC/MBC with the UTEC. You don't have to do anything different with the UTEC's boost map.

but do you suggest using one? I am really leaning toward the UTEC now. I picked up a laptop today to use for it, and some of my mods should be coming soon. I want to install the UTEC after the cams, injectors, and new FMIC

i am really getting excited now
