hmmmm. I don't know about that. 285hp? Seems like alot of strain to me for a CVT. I mean..don't get me wrong, personally that is an impressive number and I have faith in the CVT because 2 days ago I got it up to 110 mph utilizing the paddle shifters. Which I am happy to say it handled REAL well.

It just 285hp is just..what..15-20 hp less then a current EVO? But as you said, time will tell.

Oh well. I am happy with mine as stock. Damn...285hp. That's something.

also, who knows what tuners already have their hands on these cars. GReddy usually has kits developed before the cars official releases. They sometimes get cars before they are out..

Ive been tuning since '93 and nothing surprises me anymore. Ive seen it all. I had my Civic turbo'd before there was a real kit released. Manifolds/downpipes can be fabbed relatively easy and if stand alones are use, there is no need to fool around with stock ECU's. Then its a matter of fuel tuning and crossing your fingers when trynig to find a car's limit of safe power. Of course there is more, but Im sure there will be an 08 ripping the streets real soon

Without a doubt, but I still think it will be several months.

people are always saying..."to me it doesnt seem like it could....." but nobody really know anything about the tranny. I've talked to Mitsubishi reps at MOD and they've all said that there is ALOT of potential in the CVT. nobody said "to me it seems like theres potential....."

basically, i agree with dohboy

uh....why can't the 'tranny' just be good?

Isn't saying the tranny that is half good, being semi-pesimistic or semi-optimistic?

j/k of course. But you can approach it that way. Don't get me wrong. I would love to see this car roar across the roads dusting every Honda and Nissan in sight. With the turbo 'sneezing' (<---) across the street screaming pass Honda and Nissan owners who be talking all that smack about Mitsubishi. But I am playing a cautious role on a car that is 'all-new'

But if the car can handle such power.
Then this bud's for you.

Haha glad you caught irony if my statement, saying it is "good" is being overly optimistic, so i just say its half good, since im quite content with its performance .

as far as the tranny holding to 285hp seems pretty reasonable... think about this for a second, the nissan murano has a cvt tranny, and stock they push 245hp... now why is it unreasonable to think that a cvt in a lancer couldnt hold that much or a little more...
Nissan USA has faith in these trannies... why cant we?

Go find out what kind of CVT it is, then come back and make that statement much as i did with the Audi A4. Not all CVTs are made equally, there are different chain/belt systems that can put up to better stress than others. On top of that, most of the higher end CVTs are built for power to begin with.

Btw about your sig. Dont compare a V4 to a V8... thats like comparing night and day if both are stock.

So I'm talking with a fabricator friend of mine. He usually does 4x4 stuff, but he has craploads of experience making custom manifolds. I also have the chance to become the owner of a barely used T66.

Now I've always done superchargers - I'm not familiar at all with the types of turbos and amounts of boost they produce. Is a T66 a good choice? I'm thinking of doing a MAX of 5 or 6 PSI to start off; don't want to take a huge risk of blowing my new engine. Thoughts?

V4, I4 whatever all im saying is dont compare half an engine to a beast of an engine.

Considering people are talking about 7 being a small boost, 5 should be good to start with.
