ok this really has nothing to do with my turbo thread, but its a good place to vent.

just because you do something different to your car to make it more like another car doesnt mean your trying to make your car like that car. maybe you just want to turn heads, or just have something to tinker on. me im a little of both. yes i have turboed my can and yes it is more like an evo, but it will never be an evo and i know this. just last week i did some racing and i kept up with an evo till 80 or so, then he took off. we both pulled up to the next light and HE asked me what was under my hood. thats enuf for me. it actually made my day. we pulled over at the next place we could and we popped hoods. i was impressed with the work that was done under his, but when he saw mine, he was kinda puzzled in look and then he started asking ME questions on this and that.

long story short, HE now wants me help tune his evo.

thats what i like. and it also makes me feel like i have accomplished something in my own work.

this is to you 03lanceres posted in the last CAI thrad posted. i appreciate it. it makes me feel like i did something and it makes me feel better about myself and my car.

as i posted earlier. i know its not an evo, and to tell you the truth, if i wanted one that bad i would have bought it then. i still want one dont get me wrong there, but i feel that i have done WHAT I WANTED TO DO. i have always looked for a challenge. and especially with me being a CAD major in college and working with solidworks, i have done research upon research in what ive done, thrown it all out the window and started all over again to get what "I" wanted.

I've read a few of your posts as of late; from what I can tell, what you're trying to do is turn your Lancer into an EVO. Put a turbo in, upgrade the ECU, and leave it as that. You'll end up spending $20,000 (including the 9K for the car) making it into half an evo (FWD and half the horsepower).

I'm not bashing you or anything. I'm just saying the truth.
My suggestion, coming from someone who owns a regular Lancer AND an EVO, is upgrade the suspension before you do any power mods. The 4G94 is a stout motor, but it's never going to break 250HP without serious work. Even if you boost it to 7psi, which will be a SAFE max for stock internals, you'll get only 140-150hp at the wheels. And to do it right is going to cost you $3000 or so.

But to your orignal post. Cold air will just be louder, a Short Ram intake will be quieter. There is very minimal gains on the CAI over the SRI (maybe 2-5hp, depending on temp and humidity)
this was posted at me in another thread, and kinda caused the whole vent thing in a couple of earlier posts here in my thread.

and from what i have bolded italicized and underlined in the quote above, just makes me want to prove him wrong. i was prolly making that with an exhaust, cai, and my underprive pulley.

i know that turboed non-evo lancers with the right setup can make over 200hp.

just me with another little rant.

I have the exact same mindset. First off even IF I thought something was dumb or not worth doing I dont dare say anything to anyone cause if they like it thats all that matters. Everyone likes different things and doing things different ways and doesnt make anyone right or wrong in how they do it. Looking forward to seeing how yours develops man

once i get my new upper pipe in and bent i will post up some new pics of what it was to what it is today.

my goal was to have my car completely done in 5 years (basically my loan time on my car).

that included:
sound system........................done/ fine tuning the layout
turbo....................................done
body kit................................working on
rims and tires.......................working on
paint....................................working on
interior................................almost done/done

as of today 8/22/2009 i currently have 9 payments left on my car, so in other words 9 months left on my build.

well the last few days was FUN! i mean that sarcastically of course. i finally had to domy rear drum brakes. it went ok until my drivers rear cylinder decided to lock up. got a new one and got it installed and all is well now, except that my wallet it a little lighter especially after drivingmy moms jeep that gets 18mpg. $45 later to fill up her tank for 4 - 1hour trips!

that cost me almost as much as the entire brake job did!

workin on gettin in the boost controller this week. then i will start messin with that. i bought a greddy profec b spec 2 off of a guy here on the fourms for a rather good price. now i got to figure out how to program it.

I know what you mean bro. I did all 4 brakes about 8 months ago and what should have taken couple hours (i painted my drums and calipers while I was at it.) took 2 days!!!!! The stupid bleeder valve decided to twist right in half trying to loosen it lol. bought another valve and tried drilling the old one out with no success and had to buy a whole new caliper which of course was not in stock haha oh well can laugh now but sure wasnt when it happened

ok so i got the boost controller in and set i think...

low:
set 50%
gain 5%
set gain 20
warning 70
warning limiter 10%

hi:
set 100%
gain 5%
set gain 40
warning 75
warning limiter 10%

now remember i have a tial external wastegate with a 7psi spring. my top boost was 10.8 psi.

i think i need to adjust a few things. i want my low to be about 4-5 psi and high to be like 8 or so. that way i can change from fuel economy to race mode.

any thoughts?

i also noticed that when on low boost it starts "clicking" at about 2 psi or so. is this normal or something not hooked up right? i does not do it on the high setting.
