Question MAF Restrictor / Piggy::: New question

Ok, from what searching i've done, and what litte i found. I have discovered that it is not reccomended you remove the MAF restrictor plate that goes over the honeycomb with stock tune/ECU........BUT

I just got my V1 RRM Piggyback. Would i be able to remove the restrictor plate once i have the piggy installed with the stock piggy tune. or would have to go get it custom tuned????

i'm asuming i would have to get it retuned, but i just want to clarify.

I think I remember reading something like, the only way to remove that is by going turbo. But then again I know nothing about it.

excellent answer mate

i hadn't actually read about the turbo thing, only that a stock tune would be no good.

now that you mention it, i know RRM's turbo kit comes with a "modified MAS", so i'm assuming all they have done is removed the restrictor plate

the reason i'm asking this btw, is cos i was putting on my new RMR intake tonight, and the restrictor plate fell off. so i'm just wondering if i should bother going to home depot and getting some silicon sealant, or if it would be cool to leave it off

Last I heard, that was only went you went up to Stage 2 turbo on the RRM kit.

I highly doubt it'll help you much N/A, because you're just sucking air in at normal atmospheric pressure. When you're pushing it in with extra boost, then the restrictor plate could be an issue.

My thoughts - try it if you want, but have a spare MAS on hand......

lol ok. well i think i will give it a miss

when i was putting the intake together last night i forgot to glue the restrictor back on anyway. so when i started the car up, it wasn't happy.

the idle was awful and the car just stalled all the time.
i glued the restrictor plate on this morning, started the car, and it's running fine.
although the idle is a bit bouncy. But i'm hooking up the piggy today so i'm gonna end up resetting the ECU anyway

you wont be able to make even the slightest modification to it without tuning. you could also just get a 501 MAF off the 2.4 eclipse/galant or the even bigger 399 evo MAF. all are the same housing with the same sensor but have bigger openings.

keep the restrictor plate. If you take it off, air will enter underneath the sensor and it won't be accounted for. You won't be able to tune it right either, since the ECU won't even know how much air is coming in.

IIRC, you can remove it but you have to custom tune for it because if you don't you will run too lean...
