I keep seeing Evo guys bashing the engine, too, but the basic truth is nobody knows what this engine is capable of yet.

What would make me nevervous about putting power mods on your (OP's) GTS, though, is your CVT. That transmission is NOT serviceable. Something breaks in it, the whole thing has to be replaced. To me, that means Mitsu will look for ANY excuse to not cover it under warranty. I'd recommend the CVT guys be very cautious, and maybe stick to basic suspension and aesthetic mods for now, and hopefully in the near future we can get a better idea of what it can handle.
SUP Otter! Can u beleave the 4b11 bashers on this forum there not even giving it a chance Anyways hows it going you got any events coming up soon? I cant wait to get some more mods and dyno this thing just to put some numbers up on the forum. They wont be able to argue facts on HP and TRQ from a dyno sheet.
O and by the way welcome to the 08 side of things SHEEP.

i dunno why so many ppl are bashing on this new engine either. going from a 120hp sohc 2.0 motor to a 150+hp dohc mivec is an improvement to me. i only see potential. anyone kno if it's timing belt or chain? i may be wrong but i think followed along w/ the sr20 and k-series motors' design of having the exhaust mani on the other side...which was why i was wondering if it's timing chain

Yeah it's a timing chain setup. Most likely one of the reasons that the 4B11 is a decent bit louder under the hood than the 4G94 was.

I just hope it's not nylon coated. Had to replace one of those this last week on a Jeep. Damn nylon was everywhere; had to drop the pan and clean out EVERYTHING.

There is a really good series of in depth detail about this engine and gearbox of this car on YouTube of all places it looks like the gentleman is a Mitsubishi mecahnic and is giving a lecture to other Mitsubishi mechanics - to find it just do a search of 4B11 and they will come up but most of the videos run for about 10 minutes

4b11 bashers will be prevalent, after all its a transition from one of the best engines in the market right now the 4g63. i dunno but im skeptical at this point. we will see what happens though!

Well I finally got a chance to test drive a Lancer GTS on Saturday. Keep in mind that I am a Mitsu guy and I have owned a 2g eclipse, 3g eclipse and an Evo VIII.

To make a long story short I was extremely disappointed with the overall performance of this vehicle. The car did not just want to go at all. It seemed very sluggish and when I turned the ac on I thought the car was going to shut down completely. I swear my wifes 2001 Nissan Sentra 1.8 liter feels more "peppy" than the Lancer. It seemed very stiff turning too.

BUT the interior I thought was awesome, from the dash to the Navi and the stereo, and it was very comfortable. The exterior is sweet as well. The new design looks great.

I really thought I was going to be buying a 08 Lancer GTS that day but sadly I did not. I ended up buying a 07 Mazda CX-7.

I'm not knocking the new Lancer at all, IMO I just think it needs some improvement under the hood to move that 3100lbs body.

I thought the steering was a bit stiff too at first. At low speed it takes some getting used to, but at speed on the HWY it is straight as an arrow and responsive. It's also very precise in the corners and an excelant match for the above average handling.

The GTS demands you get through the learning period with the ECU/Engine/CVT (I have heard it's anything from 15 minutes to over 60 minutes of driving)... during that time drive it like you stole it so that it gets the hint that you want a sporty/spirited drive. And of course if you want a quick launch you need to use the paddles or manualstick to get the most out of it.

That all being said I agree that it's about 15hp underpowered all said and done. I will be curious to see some verified slips of before and after with a intake, exhaust, and ECU flash/piggyback. If it can push this setup for an extra 15 - 20 that woudl be great... the stock gear is just so restrictive. A diet would be nice too, but without compromising the features the vehicle is bought for or engineered for there isn't much to change... Rims (I like them and would like to keep them) are one obvious one as are a few parts under the hood, but short of getting more radical that's about it.
