The harmonic dampener absorbs the wobble of the crank that happens at certain rpms. Its like when you dont balance a wheel it will start wobbling at a certain speed and not in others.
This all depends on the tolerances from the the factory. They are pretty balanced from the factory but to offset variances, they use a harmonic balancer and 4 cyl are naturally known to be unbalanced a bit, but so much less now with all the machining technology we have.
That why people balance cranks, cause there are slightly unbalanced stock cranks and at high rpms it gets more important to maintain balance. I think thats why only some people experience problems. If there ever is a problem caused by this mod, I highly doubt it will be the pulleys fault since its not the pulleys fault that there is an imbalance. The imbalance is in the engine. Stock pulley only hides this inbalance if any. RRM has real good products from what I see and Im sure there machining tolerances are dead on . On the other hands mass produced engines will vary a bit. So blaming any damage on the pulley itself is not fair since its not the pulley that is unbalanced.
My experience with these things has mostly been on Hondas and Mitsus and there has been very few instances I have heard of. Also these are older engines Im talking about. Id expect a 2008 to have better tolerances and forgings than 80-90's cars Ive dealt with.
wider wheels and coilovers can cause a rough ride and stress your chassis and wheel bearings but how many times do you hear about people complaining about that causing problems, same thing
This car doesnt really rev that high as it is, I would say this is a pretty safe mod and it works from what people say. I know I make long posts but I like to be thorough as possible.
Bottom line, this is such a minor mod to be so worried about it!! everything has its risks and this is pretty minimal compared to other mods!
