2008 Lancer Standard Oil

I was just wondering if the 2008 Lancer's standard oil is regular, synthetic, or blended?

I just want to make sure before I do my own oil change.

^^no point unless you plan to be hard on the car. For normal driving, regular will be more then efficient.

or if you would like to change it at 5k intervals instead of 3k, its not like synthetic blend is that much more. i would at least put synthetic blend, its literally like $1.00 a quart more especially when its on sale. im not saying its necessary but you might as well.

Buy the 5 QT. jugs of synthetic oil at Walmart for around $23-$26. Great price and get the benefits of a synthetic oil.

^ 100% agree... the price difference is $2-$3 per quart, which works out to less than $15 per oil change. You're looking at less than $45 per year for vastly superior protection. Synthetic oil sticks to components better after sitting for a while, protecting you from damage caused by cold starts - when most damage is done. Synthetic actually produces a bit of horsepower due to less friction loss. Don't be cheap - what's $15 every 3 months? Its certainly less than the amount some of you needlessly waste on high-octane gas...

Or CAI that add 4-5 HP for hundreds of $$$. You will get more benefits in the long run from changing over to synthetic then any bolt on! I have had 2 Lancers and came to the conclusion that bolt on's do little to nothing for our cars, and they just make more noise to make it appear that we have made gains. Changing from traditional to synthetic oil will be something that benefits you over the life of your investment.

anybody tried using valvoline on their engines? maybe the brand of oil won't matter as long as you stick to the schedule?

Synthetic oil compared to regular oil is for a lack of a better word perfect compared to regular conventional oil. The molecules are perfectly round, the flow so much nicer. An analogy would be to compare rocks to marbles. Dump rocks down a hill and then dump marbles down the hill and you can grasp the basic concept of what I am trying to say. Now there is alot of forum talk and flaming back and forth over what brand reigns as the best oil to use. but generally your engine will benefit from using synthetic over conventional.

Thats half the battle, flow and lubrication properties. But the other half would be each brand of oil and the additional things added to their formulation. Detergent packages would be a great example. One of the things new oils today do is actually clean all the crap out of your motor. Some oils do the same thing, but different formulations go at it in different ways. My rule of thumb is to use Synthetic oil right from day one, because it keeps your motor clean from the start. There is a myth that you should use regular oil first then later switch to synthetic, which is a myth for sure. There is another one that says you cant switch back to regular oil. You can. You can even mix oil if you real want to.

Synthetic is engineer to hold up longer and handle additional abuse.

I have no personal experience with valvoline but if its synthetic, you may very well be better off running that, vs. regular, or blend. Again it varies by brand and how their oil works.

I only use Mobil 1 0w20 oil in my lancer
