rough shifts w/ automatic

lately my tranny has been haveing some rough shifts from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. there is only 40000 miles on the car right now and when i got the car the shifts were very smooth and could not feel if the car shifted or not i would have to look at the tach to see if it did. also on the warmup the tranny is also screeching really loud as if it has low oil or none at all but i see no temp changes at all. i was just wondering if anyone else was having these problems as well with their automatic trannys. i have no performance parts at all on the car either if that helps.

How bad are they because i had that samne problem from 1 to 2. It just gave me a little kick when it shifted. My guess would be that theres def something wrong because of the sound its making.

you can never change your tranny oil too many times. that is the life blood of your tranny.

you may consider changing the tranny filter too and adding an external cooler if you drive it hard.

i dont drive it that hard just alot. there is no smell just the sound on teh warm up. i had the tranny fluid replaced at the dealership but it was at 34000 miles cause my dad is a douche. i was only 17 at the time and could not pay for it. so i think that that is y the sound is there but the shifts can be violent and it is shifting at 3000-3500 rpms which i think is a little high and i am not on the gas at all. i had the same problem with my old car which was an auto 95 civic just before it gave out. when this was happening with that car the tranny just gave out and had to get a new car. i hope that this isnt what is happening with our car so early. also when i do rev it up the shifts arent as violent as when i am just driving it regularly so i think that i am just going to keep down the rpms and see what happens if it fixes itself or not. thanks for the input guys

you can always try reseting the ecu as it partially controlls the learning ability of the tranny and how it shifts. If it is always shifting hard maybe the speed sensor on your tranny is going out and the car thinks you are always going at full speed, where when you are going at full speed it shifts normally and grabs firmly (as one would expect at a high rpm shift). At a low rpm shift the tranny is supposed to slowly apply pressue to the bands and discs however it sounds like it is slamming them on.

As for the sound that is never good.

My buddy who had an auto with hard shifts used TrickShift and SynchoMesh ATF fluids... both he said, decrease those hard shifts in the auto tranny.

for me, the best way to reset the ecu is to pull the #8 fuse from the fuse box under the hood, and also pull out the green box you see and plug it back in.
