I know theres a lot of people that probably talked about this and ended up doing the swap...
but then theres also a lot of people that just read evom, see that people wrote "it will never work" and figure they know what they're talking about and then start downing other people...
hey I'm not saying you dont know what you're talking about, but I bet 80% of the people that say it wouldn't work just read it somewhere and figured hell it must be true...
Money Issue
If you have enough money, why not save all the hassle and use that 2 grand as downpayment towards a warranty covered, brand new evo and trade in your lancer instead of trying so hard and spend too many to make your slow-assed 120hp lancer go faster?
First off cant afford the payments on a new lancer or the insurance for that matter. My driving record isnt the greatest. Also dont want to lose the money that I have put in to this car. As far as the used engine you guys say im wasting my money on. It was a brand new crate motor with brand new parts not more than a year ago. Has very little miles on it and wasnt abuse. Only reason im getting this practically new motor so cheap for is the fact that the car it was in ended up on its roof. The engine was checked and everything is in working order. So as far as the 2 grand its worth it to me. The ralliart engines are nice but once again more expensive and have less horsepower and in my opinion would never be able to take as much horses as a dsm motor will.
one word:
expensive
definatly expect to pay about $10,000 to complete the setup. thats about the price range it is going to take me to finish my evo motor swap including the evo 4 front clip i have.

just a side note. most of the mirage guys paid somewhere between 10k-15k to complete their setups. havn't seen it done cheaper. basically the same engine bay as the lancer. just letting you know what your getting yourself into.

I also don't understand why you wouldn't go with an Evo 4+ motor and at least have the engine facing the right way to begin with. That's just more fab time and money, both of which you could save. In the long run, even if you saved x amount of dollars in buying your motor, you're prolly gonna spend at least that same amount in the extra work it will take to get it fitted into the bay. Best of luck though and I'll be in the crowd watching this thread as well.
We just started discussing this last night. It may have been pre-mature to post about it but I'm sure he was all worked up. Anything is possible if you have the right connections and enough money. Also we would never take on the job if we knew it was going to sit in the garage for a year. Cost is whats going to slow things down. We can fabricate alot here and we do have a couple machine shops we deal with, local and out of state. The engine he is looking at does have a 16G on it allready. Fuel Regulator and Boost controller, thats how the guy was pushing 300. There is alot of research to do yet, we'll see what happens.
Time and money no doubt. I just wouldn't want to cut up a perfectly good car and possibly make it unstreetable. Especially if I was still making payments on it, or if it was my primary source of transportation.
You want a sleeper, get yourself and old late 80's/early 90's Mirage or Colt hatchback, or even a '96 or back Mirage coupe and put the DSM motor in there. You'll still have as much fun, I promise.
Or if you insist on being an innovator, you can be like this guy...
And yes, that's an VIII motor, and yes it is supposed to be AWD.

Well like Cnfx1 said I think this post did come a little to soon, but as he said I was worked up about it. There maybe a lot of work to come from this but as well the work that the shop does is pretty dam good. We will continue to do research and see what happens. It will take a few months if we do decide to go along with the project. It will give us substantial time to do research and see if this is do-able and as well to see how much it will cost in the long run. So continue to bash if you would like. I have my mind set and im waiting to see if it will pay off.
It's not bashing because we disagree with your choice. If anything, take it as very constructive criticism that could help you out a lot in the long run. I just can't get over the fact that you chose the opposed engine to begin with.
