I honestly didnt pay for anything yet. I told everyone in here numerous times its still in research. Its nothing at all in stone and engraved to be final. I may change my mind. Im looking at every possible scenario right now. As far as not having a clue of what im doing thats why I have the shop and experienced mechanics helping me. I would not just jump into something that I know is gonna cost me an arm and a leg and koolade9 if you say im paying to much then why not help me find something cheaper??? I would gladly take a cheaper car. But I need the whole setup not just the engine and tranny. I need suspension as well and the front clip.

Haha yeah ok and pay out my *** for them to do it. I will stick to my research and work from there. Thanks to all who have given feedback positive and negative. I am open to more opinions to see what people have to say and to help further my decision.

let me know what all you're looking for. from the sound of it, you need motor w/acc, trans, harness, & ecu. your axles and lower xmember will be probably be custom so you can use your suspension. I've got access to everything above except a tranny, but I have one connection that may have one. I'm in IL though...

I still stand behind the idea of just putting a turbo kit on it, and maintaining a reliable car. dsms that go fast...break fast, and become money pits...which is another reason some of us bought evos. throwin a 7bolt/2g tranny in there is honestly a step backwards in terms of reliability and potential. You'll read about people making big power on the stock dsm motors... they make that big power, but they don't make it for very long. I can name off people that run 11 sec 2gs that all blew their 7bolts...not from crankwalk, just from the motor giving out. you've still got to replace most of the motor to make decent power...

It does. I'd hate for you to spend all that money and then have the motor walk on you. People with big power goals (400+) do not use 7-bolts. You're buying a previously modded one from a wrecked car, so that's why I said check for endplay.

What year make and model is the donor car?

Recently, some shops claim they have solved crankwalk and a few builders do make built 7-bolts, but it hasn't become mainstream. Also wether or not 2.4L 7-bolt 4G64's don't walk is still a valid question as it is a new concept. So it might be a valid idea to just salvage the head and turbo from your donor and pick up a used Galant block for like, what - a couple of hunions and do that. Here's a thread on how to do it:

http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49472

To get over 400hp, ditch the B16g and go with a 60trim like this one from AGP:

http://www.agpturbo.com/customer/pro...&cat=72&page=1

Then figure out how to get cut your front bumper up enough to get a Spearco 2-216 core in with the most airflow possible.

2.4L's + a 60trim + FWD = Highway Assassin.

I can get ya that 60trim too... everything he said is very true. for big power 2.3 and 2.4s are the current fad...but personally i don't know anyone who still has thier's together. I know many that have run each stroker, and had various other problems related to the gobs of torque they make.

reliably, get a 6bolt 89-92 1/2 block, run 95 pistons, 1g rods, 1g head and intake, 272s, and put a 50trim on, big frontmount, and use a 95 eprom ecu w/dsmlink to tune it. that'll get ya all the power ya need to break the trans in two...so then send it off to tre, have them rebuild it, and throw in a quaiffe. I'd run a 2100 instead of a 2600 clutch though, just as a fuse, and to help take the load off the drivetrain.

and the best bet, would be to sell the lancer, and buy a dsm... then do all the above mods. all the fun w/out the fabrication...leaves more money to fix broken parts..and all things considered, your insurance will probably be about the same because it'll be an older car.

Now that you've told me that story about the '98 with the 60 trim (and of course what Marco from Magnus thinks of Quaife) I've changed my mind and will go for a KAAZ when the time comes. It should put a lot less stress on the spiders, and is better for someone who does drag race a lot. Even though I don't, I'd rather not worry about putting so much pressure on the drivetrain from the occasional hard launch. And I can get over the clicking and clacking while parking.

If he does stay 2.0L's I'd say go 50 trim but I myself think the Evo3 is just as good. T3/T4 hybrids are just such a wild fad almost to a fault I think. I just recommend the 60 for the 2.4, so the car wouldn't be too much of a dog off boost and to give him mad top end - since it would be a little cheaper then a TD06H-20G.

I don't quite understand all the rod angle stuff, and people claiming that is the inherent problem with strokers and 2.4's, but I suppose it has partly to do with the fact that nobody builds one just to tool around and cruise in.

The dog cut gears from Magnus are also a possibility to deal with the increased torque. He can use an AWD box like you suggested and have the strength of something that can handle 700 lb/ft of torque.

see, we're all on the same page... we really need to just start directly people to the dsm forums.

as far as the kaaz vs the quaiffe... i don't think it was the quaiffe that did all the damage, so much the shock loading to the gears. thats why if i were to have someone do it all over again, i'd go 50 trim w/272 cams, and use a 2100 instead of a 2600. it's really the clutch that's the tranny breaker. i'd rather smoke tires then replace tranny goods...

both the quaiffe and the kaaz are good products. I've only used the quaiffe personally, and to be honest i loved it, it doesn't make noise(as if the car wasn't loud enough already) and it's got a lifetime warrenty.... but i would definatly reccommend against getting the b&m for a fwd. a light 1g awd...maybe, because the stress is spread out amongst 2 diffs with less weight to move. and you can find used quaiffe's for 750-800ish with the speedo gear installed.

Ha ha, yeah I was thinking the same thing but forgot to ask that. A local guy was doing a Cosmo 3 rotor swap into his FD, but I haven't seen it running yet.

It's not the point. No one has done one successfully since 1997 using a DSM motor, except extreme motorsport. Now, how many years since the 5g mirage and current lancer till now? Heck, turbo magazine (if I remember correctly) tried it and gave up. People had better success w/ E4 motors and up.

How many years did the H&A guys swap the new K-series motor from the RSX to the lower line civic? It didn't take long after the intro of the RSX for SCC to slam dunk one in a civic.

Wow, I didn't know that a major mag had tried and failed. If you can remember anything more about that, please share.

HASport has done the KA (reverse oriented) motor swap into the old Civic. But IIRC the car ends up not having any accessories like koolade9 aluded to a while back. No A/C, no power steering, no cruise - etc... It is most certainly not hate that we are spreading - just knowledge and constructive criticism.
