Question Question About Power Door Locks

Can anyone tell me if our door locks are suppose to lock all four doors if you move JUST the driver's side inside lock knob to lock(not the power switch)?

Also, if the key is in the ignition and you try to lock the doors, are the doors suppose to not lock?

I'm asking because my Lancer LS (July 2001 build) does not do this, but many of the technical bulletins I read on the Lancer say the car is suppose to have both of those features. It even shows in the service manual that I have from Mitsubishi as features equipped, but my car doesn't do this.

Can anyone verify?

ES does that too, but my memory may be a bit foggy...my alarm auto-locks my doors when the engine starts.

I don't quite understand your question, but if you manually turn the drivers knob to lock, it won't lock the rest, only that door. Unless if your talking about the auto button, then that opens all four.

When the key is in the ignition, you can lock/unlock it freely. When my key is in the ignition, I could lock or unlock it without no problems.

That's what I'm talking about. So your Lancer works the same as mine.

Same here.

LaNceRiTiZ appears to have the features we don't. Can anyone else confirm?

I already looked at the wiring harness connector to the door lock and it does NOT match what the service manual states. I'm wondering if this is a defect and that's why these features don't work?

Is it really that important? As long as it's functional, then we're all good.

Well, yes, it is important. I just had my keys locked in my car at the car wash and couldn't believe it because all of the cars I've ever had that had power door locks wouldn't lock if the key was in the ignition. That's why I'm investigating. If this is a feature that is suppose to be on the car, I want it working.

Not sure how a car wash leads you to lock the keys in the car, but I've never heard of a car that couldn't be locked while running. I do know that you can't use the remote (at least on mine) to lock the car while the key's in the ignition.

I didn't lock my keys in the car. The car wash guys did. The key was in the ignition, car running and they pushed the power door lock button for some reason and shut the door. My car idled for about an hour before I could get someone to go to my house and pick up a spare.

I know you can't lock the doors with the remote if the key is in the ignition, but what are the chances the key and the remote are separated to actually use that feature? Arrg. =-)

That's exactly why you should have a spare key on you!
