A/C knob breaking? Common Problem? Recall

I think this is a common problem with the lancer, the A/C knob is always breaking. It gets hard to turn after use, and then eventually breaks the shaft.

Wondering if anyone knows of a recall, or if I can snag a couple of these up. I need 2 of them, and I'd be willing to replace the whole knob assembly. Shaft is broke on the Temperature control knob for both of them.

Thanks,
Darren

There's a TSB on it. If your car is still in warranty, it's covered. If not, be prepared to pay tons to fix the problem.

If you did a search, you'd find many many threads about this topic.

Warranty long gone on both of them. Perhaps I'll find one in the for sale section.

Thanks

lol yea mine is broken. Only way I can switch from cold to hot air is by manually turning a plate under where my feet go towards the top, and pushing it all the way towards the front of the car is cold, and towards me is hot. then all i do is turn the fan from 0 to 1,2, etc. for the amount of air. it gets really irritating having to go down there and switching it when i want cold/hot tho. i wanted 2 go replace it @ the dealers n it cost about $400 to switch it! so.. im sticking with the manual switching.

Is that really how TSBs work? I thought they worked like a recall - dealer fixes, warranty or not.

I'm the third owner of my Subaru, and I took it in for a TSB with no warranty and 93k on the clock. They did the service free of charge...

I don't know if car manufactures have similar policy, but motorcycle manufactures have both update bulletins and recall bulletins. The update bulletins only get performed when a unit is within warranty and some actually have a specific expiration date/time period for the update to be completed. While safety recalls are to be performed reguardless of warranty status. Although most manufactures will "goodwill" a repair if given a decent service history.

I had a 91 3000GT that I took to a $tealership in 1998 (insurance was paying) and they did some sort of recall replacement of a brake component while it was there. That car was definitely out of warranty...

This has been covered way too many times. Search, and you will find out there is a recall. There is also the number where you can call, give them your VIN, and they will tell you "YES" or "NO".

I called and my car has 2 recalls, both covered out of warranty (neither is the climate control).
