Question dragracing and all wheel drive??

I have so many questions, I thaught of an evo as SOOO fast, I mean I know it is, but, Is it true that all wheel drive cars and drag racing dont really work? i mean for example, if I raced an ///M3 on the freeway in an evo 7, would I get worked? and is it really that bad fot the clutch to launch?what if I get an upgraded one? is all wheel drive only good for handling?

i want to be good at all three (handling, launches, and acceleration) my choices in cars are a '97 supra twin turbo, '99 ///M3, or an EVO 7. I just dont really want to buy a used car. how would the evo pull in say 4th and 5th gear? can someone please help me out?

by the way, I am going to do mods to the car, probably boost control, intake, turbo back exhaust, new innercooler (front mount) and piping. would it still be a reliable daily driver, and the q's above?
anyone????

Yer gonna get a different answer from everyone on the board, but racing 1/4's is not the Evo's specialty, but it'll definately throw down like nobody's business.

I think 13.1 sec for a car that's totally stock is pretty good.

As far as the whole dumping the clutch thing goes....you don't necessarily need an upgraded clutch, unless you plan on dumping at about 5k. If yer usiong the Evo for more 1/4 stuff then I would probably reccomend an upgraded clutch....

Top end on an Evo is pretty damn good too, but don't expect to be metting up with 'Vettes and taking them down from a roll like you had talked about.

There's an ongoing debate on this board about which is better for launch AWD or RWD....some say AWD, some say RWD....I say whatever works, do it.

Hooby is right. You'll get different answers from different ppl. If you know anyone who has an AWD DSM have them take you for a ride. I think that could answer most if not all of your questions.

I agree with the consensus about not just using the Evo to drag the quarters. I mean come on. With it's awesome balanced nature (the ability to create massive power and throw it around corners), using the Evo to drag is a waste of money. Go with some Detroit steel if you wanna do that. Auto crossing the Evo or taking it to a track if available would be the best way of displaying its merits.

Yes, what he said. Plus, if you are looking to get into low 11's or less in the 1/4, you'll need to start looking at tuning your suspension for the 1/4 mile. This will ruin your handling and balance for cornering.

For drag racing: AWD or RWD...I think all depends on the car. Some AWD Eclipses that I have seen run low 11's and the fact that all 4 tires grab def. helps

The other thing I have heard it that AWD is good, but it also adds a significant amount of weight to the car.

The Japanese Evo will beat the 333HP M3 and the Supra Turbo, in a race to 60mph, and in the 1/4 mile...according to MT's last stats anyway

2002 BMW M3 to 60 in 4.7..........13.2 @ 107
1997 Toyota Supra Turbo to 60 in 5.0...........13.6 @ 105
2002 Evo VII to 60 in 4.3...........13.1 @ ???

Of course if you ask that in a Lancer forum you're mostly going to get a biased answer on what to get and what's awesome or better.

actually...pretty much all of the above answers have been pretty non-biased and pretty neutral.

I'm biased, yet I still come to this forum. I think the Yugo was the most awesome car ever built!:headbng2:
