One gigantic '04 Lancer rumor thread.
i forgt to mention last time i was up there he said we were (supposed) to get acd but not active yaw control. and the difference so far is weight bumper reiforcments and the big 275h.p only and no 6 speed. but h.p is supposed to be 315 the next year. and i found out we get the most evos then any other dealer in C.A. evreybody gets 1 and we get 6. but not until feb.
The MIVEC technology is finally coming stateside? I have mixed emotions about that.
On one hand, glad to see that Mitsu is finally recognizing the marketability in the united states for variable valve timing, and the like. On the other hand, I think that rarely is a V.V.T. system worth it's mettle beyond producing good peak horsepower for a limited time beyond most people's most normal RPM driving range.

Sorry but the thing you said about every dealer only getting one Evo is incorrect. Care to place a bet on it?
There will likely be 4500-6000 Evos brought over the first year. You may get some good info on the 12th though..please post what you hear.

Yeah, I wasn't gonna bring that up, since I don't know for sure. But, if I remember right, someone broke it down, and it was something like 6 or so EVOs per every dealership on the initial production run. I pity those who put that non-refunable 500 buck deposit down, and are number 10 or more on the list...
hey that was just what the sales manager told me, I dont sell them I fix them. but I was told up at mmsa it was only a rumor about how many were going to be actually released. but i will post on this thread after I have gone to the class. maybe they will give us specific numbers.

just a little note on the mivec. mitsu has always produced good low end torque and peak power was in the low end normal driving range. with the mivec I see it as a hard pulling machine all the bottom end power added with a shot of top boost, kind of reminds of having a shot NOS. mitsus have always had all the power in the beginning a little top end wouldnt bother me. they will probably use the new mivec engine thats going in the 04 outlander being since it wasnt ready for it right now. what they need to do is use the MVIC for more low end torque and the MIVEC for the top end, wouldnt that be fun.
the hp rating that they give in the magazines and other sources is in compliance with the japanese so called emissions law. 275 hp is what it was de-tuned to the first year from 315 actual hp to see what Subaru does with its STi. to answer your question the 276/280 hp rating is a front for the japanese emissions deal, they actually roll off the line at 315 hp. they are detuning it to 275 to make the average person think that it is only losing 1 hp vs the 40 hp that it would be really losing. it is being de-tuned thru the ecu and the secondary air injection in front of the turbo. we have no hp limit in the states so when it comes the second year (or the second half of 04) we can say it has been made better and faster at the 315 rating when it is really the way it was supposed to come in the first place.
damn.. mitsupwr.. if you are legit.. you will become a great resource for all of us.. please understand though.. alot of people have come and gone, claiming they were insiders.. until you are able to post scans of official documents or pics of cars, most of us will just shake our heads in acknowledgement but pass it on as rumors and not as fact.
I hope what you say is true... Thanks for the "information."

2004 Lancer
I figured I'd put some rumors to rest about the 04' Lancer. Here's what I know for certain.
The Lancer will be completely redesigned for 2004. It will be a new platform which MAY be used as the basis for the next Dodge Neon as well and MAY or MAY NOT be built in the United States at the Neon plant (TBD).
There will be several new models including a Sportback (Matrix-style) wagon with AWD and a new 2.7L 4-cylinder with 160-170HP. This engine will also find its way into a new sport model which is apparently called the Rallyart that will slot in above the OZ but well below the EVO. A Spec V and Focus SVT competitor. Yes this is the OZ you have all been waiting for but we do just fine with the existing OZ in terms of sales. A lot of parents buy them for their kids so they can look faster than they can really go.
In other news... The 2.7 motor will also be standard in 04' Outlanders and the all-new 04 Galant and 05 Eclipse redesigns. Expect the 2.4 to go away by the time the 05 Eclipse arrives.
Endeavor is on target for a March launch. Let's hope Mitsu does a better job of it than they did with the Outlander. The new pickup, if it gets the O.K. will use a Dodge Dakota frame. The all-new Diamante we were hoping for in 04 is just going to be a facelift. The current car will go to 06 when the current contract with the plant expires. What happens then?????

The thought of a lancer a little more affordable than the EVO but faster than an OZ is definitly enticing... if only I wasnt in love with the new VW GTI VR6's... it would take alot to sway that from being my next car (like, maybe the R34 golf coming stateside?)
Are you sure it will be a full redesign?
The Lancer Cedia platform is barely 2 years old.
would not go through a full redesign at this stage. Way too costly.
Interesting info about the 2.7l I-4. Sounds too much of a displacement increase to be a bored out 2.4l. I questions the cost effectiveness of creating a 2.7l fourbanger.
I'm not trying to kill the emssenger here, just looking for more info.
