Remote start
Hey guys I bought a 2003 ES from a repo bank for $700 and now have into it $3700 total so far for getting it on the road and bodywork and a paint job. Anyways it came with a Python 660XP alarm that I had to buy a remote for. It had to have been professionally installed and has a AUX wire that it says it can be used for truck pop or even a remote start. I am pretty sure it is not hooked up to anything as I programmed the remote to activate the AUX wire and nothing happened. Anyone know how to hook up the remote start? I have one relay I can use but do not know if I even need one and where to hook anything up, any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Ok then how about is there any one out there that can tell me what and where the wires are I would need to tap into if I bought just a remote start system thanks. It is a 5 speed as I am sure that does matter.
Mmm, well, I don't think that's entirely true, you just need to get a remote start that's compatible with manual transmission cars IE won't start the car if it's in gear etc.
Eg: http://www.canadiantire.ca/browse/pr...romSearch=true
Notice how it says "Available for all automatic or manual transmission cars and trucks "

Yes it is true you can put one in a manual all you have to do is tap into the wire that tells the computer the clutch is pushed in. Then you also get a "safety net" for that one unfortunate time you forget to leave your ride out of gear. I have read up on it I just cant seem to find a site telling me where the wires are on my car that need tapped thanks!!.
So how would that work if you tapped into the clutch safety switch circuit? You'd either have to be in the car, holding the pedal down, or have the switch disabled, negating the safety feature.
The only way to safely install it in an M/T would be to install a switch (or several) that trips only when the shifter is in neutral. Several limit switches, wired in parallel, installed where 1,2,3,and R would trip them and ground a circuit would probably suffice. Very unlikely a car will start in 4th or 5th.
For what it's worth, I disabled the clutch safety switch before driving my car off the dealer's lot. I've been wanting to put in a remote start, but haven't got around to it yet.
EDIT: Tell me what wires the directions say to tap into, and I can tell you where to find them.

I have a remote start in my manual tranny OZ. The remote start (designed for a manual transmission) has a fool-proof system built into it to prevent a run-away car
Basically, when the car is running and I have arrived at my destination and am ready to exit the car... I pull up on the handbrake. Putting on the handbrake enables the remote start circuits. After that, I tap the brake pedal which causes the system to set itself up. Once I tap on the brake pedal and the dash lights stay illuminated after the setup "clicking", then the starter is set. I turn back and remove the key, yet the vehicle remains running. The clutch is a kill sytem for the auto-start as well, so basically there's no possible way to get out of the car with the remote sytem engaged without having it in neutral and handbrake on. Once the key is out, you open the door, get out, and once all of the doors of the vehicle are closed again, the car shuts off.... ready to be started via remote. If at any time a door is opened before you activate the remote start, it will cancel the setup procedure (safety in case someone put it in gear when the door was opened). The only possible way for the system to mess up is if you either have someone sitting in the car who puts it in gear and sits there waiting for you to start the car with the remote (crazy), or if you have the window left down and someone reaches in and puts it in gear. Overall, 2 very low chance scenarios.
There are variations on this setup procedure within other systems, such as instead of the setup mechanism being the brake pedal to tap, it may be a button on the remote which you use before removing the key (my uncle has a system on his manual transmission sunfire which works this way).
Finally, putting an automatic transmission starter in a manual transmission is possible, but I think it's also really dumb. Just imagine if you had to leave it in gear in the winter (the only time of year when a remote starter is necessary) on a steep hill to prevent it from sliding... then while it's out there, you accidentally sit/hit the remote and it tries to start... it's quite possible that your car is gonna be taking off without you behind the wheel. Stick to a manual transmission starter for manual transmissions... period.

I also have a remote starter on my manual tranny ES and i had a friend of mine install it and we used one that just made for auto's because it was cheaper and just negated the clutch sensor so i dont need it in to start the car. i dont have any safety features to prevent a runaway car but i just got used to leaving it in neutral.
