as i recall there wasnt much play .. i know what you are talking about .. and for me it was just easier to take it all the way out , and that also made it alot easier to swap out the TOB

That is usually only in rear wheel drive applications. I'd say 90% of FWD and AWD trannies need pulled off and out of the way in order to get everything out. There's just not enough room to pull it back and remove/install the parts.

On the lancer... you've gotta pull it off.

my question is as follows:

1. 4g93 and 4g94 share the same short block with different displacement values. does this mean that aftermarket con rods from a mirage will swap into the lancer?

2. mirage and lancers have the same cylinder head only the mirage has a more agressive grind on the cam. however, will aftermarket valve springs from a mirage work with the lancer?

Rods - highly doubt it. The displacement difference is as such:

Mirage:
Bore - 81
Stroke - 89

Lancer:
Bore - 81.5
Stroke - 95.8

Mark, I don't think I need to explain why the rods probably don't work...

(For those who don't follow me, the 6.8 mm difference in stroke)

--------------

Valve springs - I'd assume so, just because it's the exact same head (part number and everything)

-----------------

PS - Boe doesn't come on anymore, so you'd wanna PM him.

i knew the displacement was off but i wasn't even thinking about stroke; duh good call

ummmm, technically, stroke doesn't have much to do with rod length. stroke is determined by the crankshaft.

you can't rule out the possibility that the rods may work. if you increased stroke but kept the same length rods from the mirage, the fact is that the 4g94 block is taller which may negate the use of shorter rods.

EDIT: welps, did a check. different part numbers between the g93 and g94 rods. it doesn't mean they can't be machined to work.

Screw that- let's see the modification list. 176 from a G94 smells like a nicely tuned stage 1 turbo.

with deep enough pockets it's probably possible. the car wouldn't be very "streetable" though

^^ Yeah - you're talking full port and polish, new head, cams, full engine management, higher compression pistons, head gasket, the works! But we'll wait to see what this engine as got.

You're not telling the whole truth. No 5g Mirage LS came with a G94 from the factory, unless swapped, hit with nitro, or banged from a small turbo.

Only 1 G93 owner swapped to a G94 before swapping to an Evo +4 in the US. The 2nd guys hasn't been confirmed. This isn't a cost effective way. You can spec a G93 similar to a G94 like AQ who now owns a RA. Also, there are 2 others with a G15 swapping to a G94, not confirmed again.
