nother update.
called ray laks honda, mitsu and acura
about the oem ipod converter for stock radios.
long story short, i had to do some research after
the parts guy told me that certain models dont match up right.
after he rattled off like 5 different part numbers,
not wanting to waste 150$ (cause i cant return it)
so i called that site that offers it, to match a part number.
here it is for the RA (at least 04's)
MZ 607 411 EX
called laks back, they want 198 for the part.
looks like that site is the best deal around,
now to wait for the paycheck then the part will be in the mail.

My friend does audio work professionally and told me he could do a Y thing like was stated earlier, so I believe it. He said he can't guaranty it will sound any better than the FM transmitter, but might sound a little better. I have the FM thing and it blows. The only way it comes in clear is if I am touching it with my finger (weird).

when you touch it you are acting as an antenna for the ipod transmitter.
nother strange thing like that,
next time you are far enough away from your car,
take the keyless entry and go just barely outta range.
when outta range, put it up to your chin and press.
human body is wierd.
so i went to an audio shop today to get some plan b's
all they were, were different head units...
suxors to be me.
I guess ill take the plunge and order that part...
but 144 just so i can ipod... how lame.

Yeah I feel you there. I can't figure anything out for my ipod except to just buy a new head unit with aux input. It's just so much easier and more promising.
And on the note about being an antenna, haha my buddy has an auto start on his car, and every day after one of our classes, we'll be walking out to our cars, and before we can even see them, he always puts the remote up to his chin and starts it, and it starts from really far away. I never knew what he was doing until now lol. Thats cool.

yeah, strange stuff.
well before you go blow your scratch on a new hu, ill try and get this thing together and see if its worth it...
if you use the aux input, you gotta use the ipod as control, could get annoying, and the wire hanging there would REALLY agitate me.
if you read some of the early posts, i was thinking of mounting it in the underside of the arm rest.
as things develop, the plan changes.
Ill keep this thread updated.
im looking at some cheap hu's used on dubsinthebuff.com,
cause i used to tune my vw,
and i might try ubrf.com too.
i mean i already spent a lot on my ipod,
why do i really wanna drop that much more...

this will work... it plugs into where your satelite radio should.
my problem is i need to get another pioneer hu, cause the one i
left in my golf is hardwired in so poorly by circuit city, i would never be able to re hardwire the stock unit into the golf...

Well the wire issue isn't a problem if you get the one with the aux input on the back of the HU. Run the wire down and out from under the cubby hole. Then plug it into your ipod down there and open your ash tray and stand the ipod up in it. It is a perfect fit and is easy to control, and no messy wires.

reverse the armrest, and change the hinge so that it bends 180 degrees.
but thats plan b.

wonder what shipping from AL to NY would be...

Sounds good to me, and for $50, it's worth a try. Shipping should be no more than like $7. It cost me $5 to mail my RRM piggyback back to them, from TX to CA. It should only weight a little more than that right?

nah i did the research,
USPS on a package 13 x 14 x 5 and 9 pounds to be safe,
from al to me would cost 12.89 or something close to 13, so 63$ total,
hes happy, if this works im really happy, and this ipod thread can be stickied or closed.
I did get a PM from a member who wanted to lend a hand in the mounting department. Never Satisfied said he had some ideas, im willing to listen.
wish me luck kids, this is finally almost over.

Here is the head unit I have. It's pretty basic, but it does the job...
http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/prod...model=CDE-9852
I got it professionally installed, with the iPod cable running to the center console under the armrest for $300. I plug the iPod in and never have to touch it, since the HU controls it; it has a text display, so I always know what's going on. When I have a track playing, I cna choose if I want it to display the song name, artist name, album title or just how long it's been playing. I'm VERY happy with this unit and how well it sounds.
