Question engine noise?

just got myself a 2004 Lancer ES, with 5000kms on it already. just noticed when i got out the car and the engine was still running, it was a bit rattly/noisy (almost like a vw tdi engine, but not as loud or noticable). It is a manaul tranny, so I'm not sure if this is normal or if I should take it in and get them to check it out. Any idea on what it could be?

What kind of rattly noisy, is it very noticable or does it just sound like engine noise.

just sounds like engine noise, but i figured it being very low in kms, it wouldn't be that loud. inside the car, i can't hear it at all, and the car is running fine. it's only when i'm outside the car.

Sounds like normal engine noise, my car kinda does that to, it's just the engine running at idle. sounds like a really faint, really fast clicking? If that's the case it's just normal engine noise. Or atleast I hope so otherwise we both might have some problems. Then again I have CAI so it has sounded a bit louder since I put it on, maybe's just the intake.

I get the same sound when I put the car in neutral and leave the engine running. I think it's normal

try getting it to make the noise, then press the clutch in (with your window open) listen for the difference, mine stops when the clutch is in

every lancer i've heard has a clicking noise. i've been told it's the lifters clacking and what not. i've got 7500 miles on mine and a lot of that highway and some drag/autoX racing and it's the same now as it was te first week i had it. i wouldn't worry abotu it unles the idle gets really rough.

well, I know very well what lifters sound like, and that only happens if your oil gets low or you get air bubbles in them when your go to replace them. I know neither has happened to may car. And the fact that when I put in the clutch it goes away points to something to do with the tranny/clutch/flywheel, something in that general area

Do you think it would still do it if the clutch was replaced w/ the parts that are on RRM??

I think it's most likely something to do with bearings, or maybe when there is nothing pressing against the flywheel/pressure plate, don't think that the rrm clutch would make a difference there, but that would be a nice upgrade

I'm planning on replacing the clutch sometime down the future, have any idea how much the clutch will be able to hold up to w/ HP/TQ until I should replace it?? or should I just wait until my clutch craps out and replace it then.

That's kind of what I was thinking, I'm sure alot of the performance stuff for my car is going to be my replacement for broken parts, that way I have an excuse for the amount of money for aftermarket stuff.

Talking

I'll try and see/hear what happend when i engage the clutch. I guess recently getting the new car and hearing this noise scared me a little! It does have about 5000+ kms on it when I bought it, I should at least go in for an oil change. thanx!
