I must have missed something!

Transmission, i made another post about clutches. got my exedy oem set. BUT i went outside to peak under the car.. which i havent dont in a while, but i have been starting up the car every other day to keep things in check. i dont try to shift. i just start it up and wish i could drive it.

i climbed under the car and boom. HUGE black puddle. not oil. tranny fluid. FML. in the pictures, the leak seems to be coming from the bolts there a few inches to the right of the exhaust. these are the best pictures i could get. what kind of damage could have been done? could it be just a gasket/seal? do i need to cry?

what were the symptoms of the clutch problem?

how sure are you that it's transmission oil? could it be old ****ty brake fluid? could it be engine oil?

the bolts you describe is just a dust/inspection cover...if you pull it off you won't see much, but the back side of the flywheel...unless you have an inspection scope, you won't be able to see what happened...

When this happened to me, my clutch pressure plate exploded, and the pieces punched holes through the transmission case...if this were the case here, you would have heard it...it wouldn't be a secret that something went horribly wrong...

I mean, it could be an input shaft seal, but it would have to be pretty destroyed to leave a puddle like that...

I drove it home one night, and there was no puddle underneath from any other time, i check every time i move my car for new spots on the concrete. next morning to take my son to school, pushed the pedal down and nothing. it went straight to the floor. didnt hear anything loud. i peaked under the car and there was just a few dabbles of fluid leaking, and i figured it was from the slave. The brake fluid reservoir is full and i can pump brakes and i get no loss in brake fluid. my clutch pedal literally feels like its free moving.

This leak has been going for the past few weeks. i just never really payed no mind until i moved it ( manually pushing it ) back to see what the fluid was that i lost.

EDIT: I also checked the engine oil as with the cold weather i have been starting it, havent lost any.

Ok here's the thing...your brake fluid reservoir is the same reservoir to fill up your clutch line but it's seperated inside the reservoir in case your clutch slave fails you still have brakes...there should be a rubber hose connected to your brake fluid reservoir taht leads to your clutch master cylinder so take that off and see if there is brake fluid coming off of it or not. You can also top off your brake fluid reservoir and bleed the slave and see if you get the pedal feel back and if it's dripping even more you might have a blown slave cylinder...which if you have a 02.-03 is inside the transmission so it would drip just like it is right now! Also transmission gear oil smells really bad you should be able to smell it just being around the car if there is no wind. If you smell something try to smell inside your brake fluid reservoir if you're not used to the odor of brake fluid and then you might figure out what fluid it is. Keep us updated!

Yeah thats leaking from the flywheel there. If you pop those two screws off with that plate there you can see your flywheel.

SOrry for the long time with no update. it was all the slave leaking. I got the transmission down with pretty much no problems other than the front core support being rusty enough that im scared to drive it now.

Well. I know its been a few. but i got it all put back together. New radiator core support, new clutch and throwout. It seems my Transmission is leaking fluid.. from inside where the throwout is located. great. im guessing its input shaft bearing, it sounds terrible, and leaks a bit of oil. How difficult is it to change the IS bearing? do i need any new types of seals for it?

you'll want 2 new axle seals, an input shaft seal, and the output shaft circlip cover...plus it might not be a bad idea to replace all of the main shaft bearings...all shaft bearings need to be pulled off and pressed on with a hydraulic shop press...

here's a guide I made on how to take it apart:
