I got my '09 Lancer done a couple of weeks ago. The guy who did mine does tint on very high end cars. He did my boyfriend's '08 Vette and showed pictures of a Lamborghini he did the day before. Anyhow, he told me that the scratches happen on Lancers, Acuras, and several others. He said that if you do roll your windows down, just wipe out the modeling (not the word he used, but I can't think of what it was). He said that dirt particles get stuck in there because it is such a tight fit. He has even seen windows on an Acura TL get scratched without the window tint. I asked him about the moleskin and he said, realistically, in other parts of the country, it may help, but I live in TX where it gets so hot in the summers that the glue melts and ends up all over your window when you roll it down. At that point, I think I'd rather have a few tiny scratches. I hardly ever roll my windows down anyway. I can handle wiping them out every once in awhile. No scratches yet. (keeping my fingers crossed)

does anyone have a problem where the scratches are actually visible from the outside?

I have 3-4 HUGE scratches but they are only visible from the inside...not that big of a deal to me as long as they stay non visible on the outside haha

What if you could use a different type of glue for the moleskin, something that wont melt all over the place in the heat, some kind of heat resistant glue?

I have the same vertical line problem too.

I had it done by a local tint shop, and I removed their tint and put my own in figuring it was a shoddy install, and I used to install tint professionally for years.

Same result, all with a 5 day wait time.

Yep the generic moleskin sucks. Only Tint Protector has the moleskin felt that will withstand the heat of those states. It actually gets over 140 inside a car door.

That's the whole reason Tint Protector made their moleskin to begin with. Cause the generic stuff sucks.

Too bad that tint shop doesnt buy from them. They could save a lot of money.... their loss....

has anyone tried cutting that piece off so that it doesn't rub the inside of the window? I suggested that to my installer and they said they could do it...but I'm worried about fitment afterwards.

I got this link from my installer. apparently it's an installer's forum. Read post #28:

http://www.tintdude.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=33301

I'm getting mine done on Wednesday. Hopefully there won't be any issues.

NO NO NO!

Don’t cut your weather strips out (as stated in the link above)! The tint dealers do that to save money. It is a VERY bad way of doing business and damaging a $30,000+ vehicle.

You will let water and wind noise into your car door. It's a VERY bad thing to do. They should be shot for doing that to a customer’s car. I would BE PISSED if I found out a tint shop cut up my car like that.

Tint Protector moleskin the car. Do it once and forget about it. $29 and it's done. You just peel and stick it on.

I just forwarded the link to my installer....regardless I still need a window retinted. I'll just have the installer put it in when I take it in.

So I went ahead and got the window molding cut. I don't know how much they cut but there is a slight increase in wind/road noise when driving at highway speeds. In the city there's really no difference but on the highway you can tell. Just a heads up for those of you with the same dilemma.

I had factory tint done through the dealership. All four windows - the tint got ruined. Took it back, they said it was from not keeping the windows clean; wierd, because I manage a car wash and the car is kept immaculate. Anyways, they retinted, changed out the felt guide, which my GTS does have and was not dirty, and viola, 2 weeks later, same ruined tint.

LOL, because your dealer uses the cheap generic moleskin.

There is only one brand of moleskin that I know made specifically for cars. Tint Protector.

Get your dealer to buy a kit from Tint Protector or buy it yourself and have them install it and pay you back!
