Well i took my car to a shop a few days ago for a check up, and now when i rev above 3500 rpms theres a squel from the left side of the engine. (Facing it) At frist i though it was the belt slipping, but after a while i determined it wasnt because not every time I rev does it go off, i also checked the belt and nothings wrong with it. Any suggestions?
Thanks

yeah. check your belts again. the underside with the V-pattern is likely worn out. the top prolly looks fine. also check belt tension and listen for any "bearing" noises....like a bad inner or outter bearing in your alternator, power steering pulley bearing, etc.

hey all,

went through the thread and tried to find someone who is having sounds like mine, but didn't seem to find any.

i have been having clicking sounds from my motor everytime i start when it is cold. it started about a month ago and didn't think too much of it, but i have noticed the sound is a bit louder and stays a bit longer.

it sounds like the valves are clicking because not enough oil is getting to it. it usually disappears after i gas the motor a few times idling or driving.

anybody got any thoughts on this? what could be causing it? what needs to be done to alleviate this?

thanks in advance. peace.

bingo! i know the US Lancer is notorious for that. however, i am not sure if that applies to the EVO as well. as a fix i'd try one of the following:

Lucas also makes an Oil Stabilizer that you can add in during oil change. i am not so certain on how well this works in an EVO or even if it should be used with FI applications. whenever you start the car make sure you do not rev it until the oil is up to normal operating temperature. the car will quite down as the oil begins to heat up and circulate.

before using any of the products listed i would ask Boe (Boeturbolancer) or Rob (Rock) about turbo app's.

hey guys for the noisy valves do i just use a thicker or thinner oil cause i got the same annoying problem that only happens the 1st 30secs of when i start my car in the morning. Also what is the belt in your engine called. not the timing belt the other one that is exposed.

please read the post previous to yours in terms of noisy valves. if it's only upon the start of the car and it goes away aftarwards-->nothing to worry about, the oil just needs to circulate and the noise will stop. there are 3 belts in the car though: timing belt, drive(a.k.a. serpentine belt), and generator (a.k.a. alternator belt)

Ok I think I have a problem with mt power steering. There is this hissing noise that comes from the engine bay on the drivers side. I can hear it from inside and some times it is worse than others. Almost sounds like a leak, but the noise stops when I turn the steering wheel. This started when I hit a big pot hole while turning. I have 215-35-18 tires so i hit it hard. has anyone else had this problem?

Well today it sounded as if someone shot my car, as in a bullet puncturing through the quater panel, then i realized i tossed a rod through the head. ........................JK, must have been a rock launching from the tire.

Rear end squeak

Just purchased a used 2002 Lancer LS. Appears to be great little car except for a very annoying squeak in the rear left wheel area. Sometime it is there; other times not. Also, when I quickly push down rear bumper and let go, the squeak is there. Mystifying to say the least. Any ideas anyone? Thanks much.

I have about 35000 miles on my 04 lancer oz, and I just started getting this "whining" noise from the front frivers side (either in the engine bay or in the dash) when I'm goin around 30 mph or less not pressing onthe gas or brakes. Mitsubishi suggested my new aftermarket brake pads might be too thick but the noise has been going on long enough to know its not the pads being too thick or it would have quit by now. Anyone know what this could be?
