Eclipse/Talon, no CEL issues,why?

I keep reading of stories about how the Evo's CEL is so sensitive. Particularly with high flow cats and test pipes. I am just wondering why the Eclipses and Talons never had that problem. Had a high flower and no problems. People with test pipes never complained about CEL's. Maybe we should try to figure out their secret.

I had a test pipe on my Eclipse and it threw a CEL. But I turned it off with DSMLink.

My Eclipse failed one inspection, but didn't throw a CEL. The increased emissions were due to leaky valve seals. Wouldn't that still set off the CEL?

yeah the test pipe on my eclipse throws a CEL... you must remember whether the car is OBDII or OBDI... I believe the 1995 DSM's were OBDI's. You can fail inspection even without the CEL for the cat. The last O2 sensor is basically used to determine how efficient the cat is, but some things, (like oil) when burned, arent designed to be taken out by the cat, so if you have leaky valve seals, the cat wont do anything to help the situation thus you'll still fail emissions.

The DSM guys usually put a resistor into the O2 sensor to get rid of the CEL.

DSM emissions requirements are not equal to the Evo's requirements.

UHHHHH....different ECU, new emissions requirements, new cat technology, cleaner running engines, new 02 sensors, new emissions algorithms, different exhaust architecture,.....etc etc etc

Uhhh 2G's basically instantly threw a CEL as soon as the cat was replaced with a straight pipe just as in the Evo's. The emissions requirements are the same for both cars, the cat technology is simliar, the engines run similiar cleanliness when stock, the O2 sensors are designed to last 100k miles, and they are both OBDII. The DSM guys had several ways to get rid of the CEL.

2g will still throw a code with a test pipe. 1g won't because they don't have the second o2 sensor after the cat like the 2g does.
