For the money I think the R32 is a rip off. I have beaten countless R32s with my 6,000 dollar civic. They are heavy and slow IMO.

On the other hand, having owned a VW they are great daily driver cars, quiet, and have all the accessories you need.

If you saw them everyday driving to work it was probably the same one, other people besides you drive to work. Or maybe alot of people own them in your area, I dont know. Regardless, yes they are rare, It shows in their re-sale value. Dealers at auction are paying 24,000 to 28,000! thats what a dealer is paying for them. Some sell for 34,000 used thats 4,000 more than their original cost. The cheapest Ive seen one for is 25,000 from a private seller with high miles and uncertainty of how it was cared for. Some people may not like the car but it is rare. I've spotted 3 r32's on the road ever. They were all blue and I think i saw the same owner twice. I drive alot aswell, I put 14,000 miles on my evo from March till the end of September.

The r32 is not rare. I saw them almost every day driving to work. You bought the r32 is good for you but if you're comparing it to the evo then I will have to disargree. The evo is pure, raw performance machine where the r32 is just another bling car. Don't get me wrong, I'm not hating car but there're not many cars there that so pure and so raw like the evo.

If you like something else more than performance then you simply made a mistake from beggining when purchasing the evo. Enjoy your r32.

Congrats on your new car.

Since everyone is giving their opinion I might as well... I looked at purchasing an R32 instead of the EVO seeing that I've been into VW's for the last 10 years or so. But I wanted a car that was easy to get power out of and also still did everything very well; drag strip, auto-x & daily driving. Its a shame but there just isn't the support for the R32 in the aftermarket. $ per HP is just not there like other cars.

I'm not planning on Modifying the r32. The only way I will is if i can go big. So until I have thousands and thousands of dollars you guys will be smoking me. But I dont care, I don't go out and street race, mess around alittle as long as its safe, Yes.

As someone who has BOTH cars at his disposal, I can say that the R32 is a better daily driver as far as regular driving. It seems too soft for me though. Keep in mind that the R32 has leather, which is a PITA to deal with on a daily basis. The R also has sharp bolsters on the sides that get hit every time you get in the car. I feel like they'll look like $hit in a couple of years. I will say that the exhaust note is awesome compared to the Evo!!

i just find this so funny... i mean not to be offensive... but the r32 must suit you well because you don't push your car as hard.

^ why to what i said? because hte r32 is soft, it's a eurotuner show car with nice leather seats that are heated and big blinky wheels that are heavy and huge powerplant that makes little power and an awd system that doesn't make too much plant. plus it weighs about as much as a baby blue whale and yes... it comes with poo tires. i'm not baggin' on the car cuz for what it is... it's cool... if you're into euro cars and you like comfy rides, then cool. i'm all for that, for a daily drive, you couldn't ask for more, a car that gets you everywhere in style and comfort, never letting you break a sweat or have a hair on your neck raised with all the passing power to show up those annoying econoboxes on the highway. i don't hate on amgs either, but the moment you start claiming this thing is a sports car worthy of any praise... i'm gonna laff. and the moment the handling on this car is compared to any sports car... i'm gonna laff.

my comment was actually well placed, for a car that isn't pushed hard, then this thing will prolly compare very well with the evo, but once limits are reached you're gonna have one car twisting its panties and the other showing its true colors.

I've driven both. The R32 does not handle as well as the EVO. I don't think they are any more rare either. I see as many R32's as EVOs where I live.

If i really could have my way I would have kept the evo and tuned it like crazy and bought the r32 as the daily. What the r32 lacks in power everything else it makes up for plus some. I think it handles just as good and probably would for sure if it had the same tires. I also kinda like the fact that the r32 is very rare. Just seeing if theres anyone else who feels the same or completely disagrees.

I also got a 100,000 mile warrenty good till December 2010, the r 32 had 18,000 miles on it. The warrenty was up on my evo in 3000 miles.

Good luck with your new ride. I have been a vw man for a long time and I still have a 99 passat 1.8t and a 1999vr6 jetta iv in greece. However since I bought my evo in 2003 I havent spent a penny on my vw's besides oil changes because I spend all my money on evo parts . I am sure the r32 is a cool car and all but you will miss that rush when 20 psi throws you back in the seat or 28 psi in my case Again best of luck.

The Evo may have some performance advantages of the R32, but anybody who's taken 8th grade economins can tell you that Volswagen > Mitsubishi
You need to retake that 8th grade Econ. According to JD Powers, a little more objective source than your 8th grade intuition, VW is one of the worst made cars in the US. If you want to post your opinion, that is fine, but the facts disagree with your 8th grade analysis.

I must say that I think the R32 is a great car. I really think it is the poor man's version of the Audi S4. It has great acceleration, handling and interior in an attractive package unmatched at the price. Yes, the EVO and STI will both out perform the VW, but neither can come close to matching the ride and interior quality. I love my EVO, but I know I would be happy in an R32 as well.

Actually, it matches well in objective on track comparisons and according to the experts at the Tire Rack is just a sticky set of tires away from equaling the STi and EVO on the track. The article is linked in one of the earlier threads.

this guy obviously doesnt drive very hard at all... and if hes doesnt.. then an r32 is probaly a good choice.. although i think the evo is such a great daily driver as it is 4 doors, and ahs a decent amount of space to it, and i dont have to begin to talk about the perofrmance, limits and potential.

Well... getting "spanked" is not an issue in my book. I don't street race, and I don't have time to visit tracks. Spank this.

But... you are wrong. While the R32 isn't exactly a race-ready car like the Evo, it certainly isn't a "bling" car, either. You want bling? Buy an Escalade with chrome dubs.

Put both cars on a track (i.e., not a drag strip) and each will do quite well.
