Insane BMW M3 race car crash @ Mid-Ohio
Just watch and learn. The driver walked away with minor bruises and soreness. It's a real testament to modern race car safety standards. Also, look at how the engine remains in the car!

My brother is the crew chief on this team- very bad day for these guys.
Thanks goodness Joey is ok!
John (crew chief) said Joey seen it coming and couldn't do anything-he just said "OH ****" and was air born. The dry sump canister ruptured when it hit and splattered the whole inside of the car w/ oil- NO GAS- the fuel cell and all the fuel lines where intact (a comment incorrectly made in a couple of articles).
When he stopped, the corner workers came over and bascially paniced. Joey got himself out of the car after releasing his belt and getting tangled in the window netting w/ his Hans device.
His anti-submarine strap was fastened between his legs and latched to a lower bar, which while flipping, tore a channel into the seat and smashed his thingies to the point of him not being able to walk after he got himself out of the car.
THEN the corner workers dragged him away from the car fearing he'd catch on fire from the, again incorrect, GAS all over him. He tried to tell them he was ok and they dragged him across the ground a second time and proceeded to cut off all his clothes so he was not "combustible".
As far as the car, the cage was dented on one bar- otherwise, John said, if it wasn't for the oil mess- nothing inside looks like anything happened.
THe team has an extra tube assy. to build a another car---- being privateers- all it takes is hard earned cash!

Wow! Thanks for the additional insight on that. I can't (and don't want to) imagine what that must've been like to experience from inside the car. Kudos to an incredibly well built race car.
I also seen that race,,,,I kept re winding when he got airborn.
What the hell did he hit, was it a hill or mound of dirt off the track. If so they really need to remove it, and make it flat.
Glad he is going to be OK. That was one for the lifetime highlight films!

There is a service road close to there and it's a 6-8" dirt berm built up to that service road. Pi$$ poor building a lanch pad at a spot where the GT cars are running 150mph +
Here's a nice pic of the engine before.........

From looking at the video it looked intentional. Of course I have no idea what was going through the Pontiac driver's mind nor am I making any accusations but from the video it looked like a solid push. Then again I'm no expert.
The fact that the driver of the BMW walked away shows how much thought and work has gone into these cars' safety systems/roll cages/restraints, etc.
