i dont even look at an sti when i see them now. its not just me who notice what im talking about. you could not hurt my feelings if im not noticed. i would rather the sti groups not see me at all.

Ain't it? I guess we all bought our cars so others would notice us! Yes, that must be it! I spent $31,000 on my car so others would notice me! It really had nothing to do with the fact that I liked the car! Honest, guys!

And Spec'd, I'm glad we could provide some form of entertainment for you!

I personally think the Sti is a more reliable car and the service i have seen is 100x better then mitsu. Also, the whole feeling when driving the sti is different then even a modded evo. There is something about the bigger motor and the non notchy tranny that makes it a better daily driver. Alot of people might hate me for saying this but i think the sti looks better although i prefer the bugeyes most. if they didnt discontinue the 05 body style sti when i was looking for a car i would be driving an sti instead of the evo. oh yea evo's exhaust tone sounds like poo while the boxer rumble sounds soo intimidating.

I disagree on the Evo sounding like "poo." One of the best sounding cars I have ever heard was KmcConn9's (Kevin's) car. That car sounds soooooo sick. The sound of that car was to die for.

I love the Boxer sound, but it depends on what exhaust it's with. I think a lot of exhausts make the WRX and STi/STI sound like a lawnmower under water. The best sounding STi/STIs I have ever heard are the S203 and S204 models. I would love to have that exhaust on my car. Aside from that exhaust, I really like Subaru's SPT exhaust with an aftermarket downpipe. I don't like something that's obnoxiously loud. I like something that has a powerful tone.

Oh, and congratulations on not nut-hugging on the Evo. I believe you just earned yourself a ban.

Subaru's do sound good, they have an extremely unique sound that is only duplicated by a few cars (Porsche and VW). Evo's have a sound not like most 4 cylinders. Having owned both, modded both, and raced both, I can authoritively say my Evo has been cheaper for the same or better results. Picking between the two is like picking which of your children you love more. You cant or dont and anyone that does pick between the two most likely hasnt owned both for a long period of time.

There are features that are good about both cars, and there are drawbacks to both cars. Just because the STi has a Porsche designed gearbox that already has an integral gearbox oil pump (JDM have a tranny cooler option) puts it slightly ahead of the MR (not that you can do the same thing to compensate). I remember back in the day (I dont follow subaru anymore) busted center diffs in the alleged unbreakable STi 6 speed. I am sure things have gotten better since the STi first came out and maybe that issue has gone away.

The one thing that I have never fully figured out though (even having been a Subaru owner and talking to other Subaru owners), is why is it no matter what form of racing you ask a Subaru owner about they never seem to consider that to be what Subarus were built for? Of course Rally would be excepted but I have never seen STi's involved in club events the way that you would AutoX, drag racing or circuit events. Example of a real actual conversation:

"That your Evo?"
"Yeah"
"Is it quick? I got an STi with some minor upgrades"
"Yeah, that one is mostly suspension actually. Coilovers, swaybars, etc. Then normal power stuff. Runs 12's almost 11's."
"Oh I never drag race, thats not what Subarus are for"
"Oh you Rally then?"
"No just open lap"
"I am gonna start open lapping, I used to AutoX WAY back, but havent recently"
"I tried it but it wasnt really my thing, my car wasnt as competitive as it needed to be and I didnt have the money to get it where I wanted it"
"Yeah suspension can be expensive"
"Well I got suspension under the car, but it wasnt that"
"Power?"
"Well I was limited by class rules"

Now maybe it was just that guy, but it always seem everyone I talk with that has a Subaru has an excuse why its slower than a comparably equipped Evo. I personally dont care, I just think its funny.

If you want funny, you should try getting a Subaru/Evo meet together. The only people that'll show up are Evo fans. It's always the, "Are Evos gonna be there?" It's kinda like asking if their ex-girlfriend's gonna show up. Then I get the, "Well, why can't it be a just-Subaru get-together?"

I came from subaru camp. I had an 02 WRX when it came out.kept it till this last june. After an intake, TBE, UP PIPE, headers, VF34(turbo Upgrade), injectors, fuel pump, ECUTEK tune, 19.5PSI, Tein Coilovers, wheels tires and a whole mess of other suspenion parts, clutch/flywheel AND after a stock gear set AND an RA gear set. I fiamally hit the 300whp mark and was chasing EVOs and STis on the street. good gearing is what helped it compete. But after all that wrenching and money, it was still not sot effective to try much more. $1400 dollars on top of 31000K i spent on my car has me going faster then my old subaru, my buddies 06 STis with similar mods and most other cars you run into. I dont feel like going back to quote it, but sinister mentioned something like, I guess no one here ever herard of big valley. Yeah he is THE ONE really fast subaru. But there are a ton of EVO shop cars and privately owned cars that really really fast too. AMS, Buschur, DYNOFlash. all these cars are no joke. and you just dont see that many Subarus competing agaisnt them. I dont remember what the big valley guys ran but, they are the only ones doing it. I almost bought an 06 STI and still love that car. I want my girlfriend to get one so I can have the pleasure of both cars. If everyone could just enjoy their own car and realize the pros and cons of each different platform, you wouldnt have a 12 page thread of crap. just my .2c

I love it when Subaru guys mention Big Valley, and what an awesome company they are. Props to Big Valley, but here is my Big Valley comeback, all that money they spent on Subarus, if they built EVOs they'd be even faster . I know Subaru owners will roll their eyes, but hey the truth hurts doesn't it and deep down inside you know I am telling the truth, of course this has nothing to do with the 07 STI.

As far as the 07 STI, when more shops are putting down 320-350whp with bolt ons, then you can claim their on the same level as EVOs, but that day has not yet arrived, and I see all this sh*t coming from one shop, Top Speed. I didn't realize that Subarus where so far behind EVOs when it came to modding, but EVO owners been through this sh*t already, bogus shops and bogus numbers. Not saying it is impossible for 07 STIs to be faster and stronger than the early years, but there still is not enough proof to consider it fact. In my opinion it would be smart for Subaru to do this, little late though, but still smart, but I still am not sure it is true yet.

I'm getting a kick reading the threads over on the Subaru forums, 04-06 STi/STI owners are doubting the 07 claims, sort of reminds me of the 03-05 EVO owners that did the same thing to the EVO IX owners. EVO IX owners had to prove it with countless numbers of dynos, timeslips, and videos, and finally the EVO community was accepting. If the 07 STI truly is better than the early years, than sorry your gonna have to go through the struggle too, and one shop (Top Speed) and their high reading dyno jet and one supposive time with no video or time slip is not enough to prove a damn thing.

Like I said from the very beginning, stupid thread, Subaru owners once again jumping the gun, trying to see eye to eye to their superiors. Provide more evidence and then you'll get my attention. Probably **** a lot of Subaru owners off and they'll type some slick comeback, when all they have to do is prove it. Give me more numbers from other shops, show me some videos of low 12 second bolt on pump gas 07 STIs, or atleast show me a time slip, but you can't do that, why because like I said it's too early!

well guys I agree. I agree with 3000ways. The only thing that sucks is that the more you say we are superior and bash the Subaru, the worst it gets on this kind of thread. Like I said before. I still love the 06 STI and almost got one. but in the end I got an EVO and I happier for it. dollar/mod. EVO is faster. If new heads, slightly different turbo, and different gearing is the answer for the STI, then bring it out and lets all play. Forget about what the race teams with their 100K+ race cars are doing. The questions is, whos going faster? average joe in evo or average joe in STI? nobody even blinks at 350whp EVOs around here anymore, especially since the debute of the IX. Everyone shows love for them but its like OK, "good number dude." Show me where everyone is power like that on a regular basis, with as little money invested in the subaru community. and even if they are...back to what really counts, its just a number on a dyno at another shop. show me a time slip or a worthy video. numbers mean nothing to me. When I had 240whp WRX with an RA gear set in it. it hauled *** and surpised a ton of evos and stis. Maybe not always the winner but it was no slouch.

No, Big Valley isn't the only one doing it. There are plenty of others doing it, too.
