WHY ?

WHY NOT ?
I've owned an 8 and 9, and driven a X for a while, the Evo 8/9 is a driving enthusiasts car, while the X is not!

I had always wanted to get a decent car for the track and considered the SST a liability more than an asset on the track. Track times are great on the SST, leaving it *****-to-the-wall and letting the driver worry about speed, braking points, etc., and not worry about the downshift/upshift smoothness (which under engine braking is quite a challenge). But the dern things tend to overheat because of the same speed of shifting it can do. Maybe if they do keep the 10 alive or even make an "XI" that's a X+, they'll improve the robustness under load/heat caused by tracking it.
yeah but i think the technology is constantly improving with so many dual clutch cars coming out - and transmission cooling mods etc., i think the sst transmission is a much more viable option for track enthusiasts than it was in 2008

What would you consider silly power/torque? I don't drag or auto x mine.

My buddy has a x. love it. It does feel heavy compared to my car though. Both great.

Boomn's looking for a new Evo, even considering a X Or hanging it up.

FWIW, I did an HPDE with a noob X owner who shared his car with his experienced driving lil bro who owned a modded IX. While the X looked smooth in the noob's hands, the same speed looked slow to an experienced guy in a higher run group. I asked the lil bro what he thought about the X compared to a IX (it was bone stock X plus a warranty covered CBE) and the X didn't pass the test. Net, the X didn't have good pedal placement compared to older Evo's for heal-toe, and the X's heavier weight slowed the thing a lot as you enter the straightways relatively. He loved the rotation and grip, thought the low end torque was fun and good, but the two negatives were bad. I can see why. I hate the X's pedals, I use big soled shoes, even work shoes with rubber soles work better than driving shoes to help reach the stupid gas pedal for a quick blip.

yeah no doubt the X is legit, just saying the rear diff mod really helps the ix make up for the rotation that the X benefits from ayc. several documented threads now about how stock ix doesn't even have the stock diff assembled properly from the factory. most track 9s have converted to some form of modded diff and the results have been impressive.

i thought boomn929 is selling for other personal reasons, but i could be wrong and dont want to get into other people's business.

I agree.

Now if only we could test two bone stock evo's, a IX and a X, have them with the same wheels/size and tires/size, and give the IX a 1.5 way rear diff. Who would be able to take a corner faster without sliding off the track? This is assuming the same angle of entry and exit for both cars. That's the question I've always had.

oh yea it's other reasons.

anyway yeah, ct9a evos' rear diffs are assembled incorrectly from the factory, which causes the horrible understeer on power. beyond that, more mods that create even more rotation are listed in the sig -

the 2011 scca t2 national champion and nasa ttu champion are evo9's running TRE's modified stock rear diff.. finally! ct9a!!!

Why are the Evo X and Evo IX are around the same price?

Is it that the Evo X are loosing their value? I was checking on ebay and craigslist and they are both going for 21k- 24k.Is it that no one wants the Evo X due to the:

1.newer shape and styling
2.new aluminum block compared to the iron block
3.a crammed engine bay and reversed turbo location making it a PITA for DIY jobs
4.no rawness to the Evo X oppose to the VIII and IX
5.the IX and VIII looks more aggressive than the X
6.the fuel pump relay issue that was plaguing the X

Does all these factors in? personally I would pick a IX or VIII over an X because its more bolt on friendly, looks and the iron block 4g63 but why are the Evo X prices so low?
