Comparing apples to basketballs here. The RX7 everyone dreams about is 238 horsepower or something, and has 2 turbos. Its also a lot smaller, lighter, sports car.

The FC RX7 is even better at being a sports car IMO, but its only got 1 turbo and about 180 hp.

The RX8 has no turbos, 222-228 horsepower OUT OF THE SAME ENGINE, no turbo. It just happens to be in a fat, 4 door, sports compact. Its meant to be driven on the street, but still plays really nice on the track. But yeah, its still a 1.3l twin rotor, and develops 80 more horsepower than the previous N/A RX.

Ive owned both X and viii (with ACD). Owned the X for 4 months until a girl totaled it. Then I got an viii. both great cars. but if i were to get a 3rd one, i'd get the X. Its bigger, but it still handles just as good if not better than the viii (with ACD).

yes. I've owned both. and i'd choose the X (manual) (never the paddle shift).

I love the X but the IX is and will always be the perfection of the evolution imho. I honestly think they could of stopped at 9. The X could of easily been the start of a new generation of performance cars for mitsu.

Doesn't perfection refer to what the persons opinion OF perfection is? Don't get me wrong I'm not hating on the IX. The X is still amazing, minus being refined for the road I feel like it still lives up to the Evolution name.

I LOOVVEEE the way the X looks when it's all lowered with a front lip and all of those cosmetics details mmmm

Don't know too much about performance for it though. From what I read aren't they sort of lazy, slow, sloppy, and whhaaa semi-auto?? hmm.. doesn't sound like the evo I know..

Bottom line is that I could never compromise performance for looks. I would ride a pink bicycle with streamers if it was faster than my car.

Nope, I wouldn't trade my 8 for anything else.

Yeah, try closer to 300. USDM RX7s were rated around 260hp, but in actuality they produced closer to 280, more in Japan (with thier 98 octane fuel).

The RX8 Renesis engine is an entierly different engine and is foolish to compare to the previous 13B motors. Just because they're rotaries doesn't make them perfectly equal. That's akin to saying all 4-stroke cylinder engine are the same.

Personally, I have a hard time moving forward with cars. To me they're getting softer, heavier, and less engaging even if they are indeed faster. My problem now is I got burned with my current used performance car and I want to go from a standing start on a brand new car. I want an EVO VII, but we'll never see those cars again.

Evo VIII 100% for me I love my car from the first day I sat in her drivers seat and I don't really care for the X's look, don't get me wrong tho it's a great car and definately carries on the evo name but there still just not the same.

Old thread but I will resurrect. I must say a few things on this topic.

I've never owned a Evo 9,8,7 etc. But I have driven in one many times. Especially in stock form. My best friend from college and high school had an Evo 9 MR up until last fall where he got an 2012 Evo X. I drove his car many times. Road trips and city driving. I had an EM1( 99-00 Civic SI) and we would switch cars for a weeks at a time. Good times. Anyhow, anyone who researches my history will uncover that I am a new 2013 Evo X MR owner. Recently, traded in my FA5 ( 06-11 Civic SI sedan) for the Evo X MR. My cousin owns a 2011 335i Xdrive sedan which I have also driven extensively.

Here's my take on all vehicles. The Evo 9 MR is tons of fun. Loud, uncomfortable( I'M 6'2 and 220lbs on a lightweight day) sharp, raw, responsive and super boyish unfortunately. Since I've grown up 19-24 years old now, I no longer long for a loud and attention calling car. A car where I have kids in swapped b18c1(ACURA GSR Engine) civic hatchbacks revving to the engine begs for mercy at me at stop lights and highways. The 9 definitely make you feel like your in a cut and dry sports sedan made for the strip or for the track. Barely has the modern day driving essentials such as MP3/ AUX capability, Cruise control, NAV, sound deadening etc. The 9 felt like my 99 Civic SI as far as driver comfort was concerned. It was a drag in city driving never mind New York City traffic jams FML! My left calf muscle looked like a softball after 1 hour. All I could hear was the road, engine and small rocks hitting the fender. Not to mention the roughest ride on Earth. I liked the interior. I like how simple it was. I appreciate simple. Visibility was very good. Back seat space was ok as well. Not as good as my 08 Civic SI sedan space but, ok. ****...my civic SI had a sunroof, AUX, Nav, Crusie Control, softer third pedal, comfy seats and more trunk and rear leg room. Not to mention telescopic steering wheel FTW! The 9 MR was sexy looking though.

I've driven the sedan 335i x-drive and it was really a sports sedan for a more sophisticated man. The kind of car you can pick up a nice girl from the club, impress her and she never feels a bump. Smooth lines and immediate power from 1800RPM and on. Every feature was available. It's a BMW what else can you expect. Comfy yet supportive seats. Nice interior. Quiet yet attention grabbing. It was truly inspiring and unforgettable.

The Evo X. Then comes my boy with a 2012 MR. Premium package w/ NAV Black. Wow. Had the chance to drive the car for 4 long hours for a road trip to Boston. Amazing difference from the 9 MR. Most evidently the auto. Let me clear the air for those who bash the DCT SST. THIS TRANSMISSION IS A MANUAL TRANSMISSION INTERNALLY. How do I know this? Because every car I've ever owned was a traditional 5-6 speed manual car. I know the characteristics of a manual tranny. The back and fourth jerk when you flutter the pedal, the time taken to get into reverse, the awful burning clutch smell etc. Make no mistake this is an AUTOMATED MANUAL TRANSMISSION. It was very clear to me that the car was not a full automatic just by the way it shifted and how long it took to switch into reverse. The features integrated into the vehicle, the creature comforts made this car grow up. I felt like an adult with a desire for sports car. Not like a teenager that doesn't know how to drive. The police no longer looked at me strangely. Women were intrigued as was every other enthusiast with the car. Very sleek and discreet yet fulfilling.

The interior was much better. FOSGATE sound was a pounder. HID headlight and an aggressive fascia were prominent. The 335 was hating. Every sports cars we encountered respected it. It was an adult all by itself. I purchased my 2013 WW MR three weeks ago with no regrets. Great for DD and work. Evo X is definitely the greater practical choice. Who the ***** races everyday anyways? If its your only car you will be driving then go for the X. Its almost just as fast as the 9 with a whole lot more and not even close the same amount of BS that comes with 9. The ride isn't as harsh and the road noise is down. Not as low as the 335 but still not skin peeling as the 9. Enjoy!

-Proud 2013 EVO X wicked white Premium Package w/ NAV owner.

Evo x is a cow. I test drove it at the Mitsubishi dealership. It's like driving an evo 9 with a 400pound sumo wrestler in the back seat.

My fiance has an evo x SE. I like it, but I love my 9. I have a hard time getting comfortable in the X. I can drive it around no problem, but I find myself adjusting the seat constantly. Its a fun car though. Having both is the best of both worlds. haha

i dont think anyone disagrees which car is more comfortable - the disagreements start with which car is the better drivers car, say for track and autox. According to scca STU, the 8/9s still seem to have their game
