Evo X vs. Evo VIII and IX
Yea the X is good around the track but not good in a straight line. I just watched the youtube vid where the X got walked by a stock sr-t 4
I would post the vid but evom do not condone street racing
Saw the first X yesterday
It was silver. I thought it was a Lancer until I got closer. So I spun over to the dealer and there were a few in the lot. Oh, the one I saw on the road with the temporary plate was driven by a female. You'll see more girls buying them for real. Everyone's heard the "Do they come with an automatic?"
I like how they look, and driving by one they look nice on the road. The interior is refined. I can read the tach and speedo. And this is the first year for this big change to a more aesthetic, prettier Evo. My MR has 13,000 on it and I love it, rattles and all.
Why did the european cars get all the horsepower, AYC, auto climate control, intercooler sprayer and we got a stripped car? To save a few pounds? To stuff in emission controls in the formerly occupied space(s)? I'm a fairly new EVO owner. You tell me! I mean if the European's have a FQ "whatever horsepower" and it means (tongue in cheek) "Freaking Quick" (couldn't get by with spelling what I really wanted to), my drive home every night tells me that there would be more dead Civic drivers if they had 300+horsepower because every EVO is a challenge to them and I just want to go home and eat and chill.
I'm and old "MOPAR Man". Way, wayy back in the day there were the Coronet RT's, Super Bee's, Road Runners, Darts..etc with rubber floor mats for carpet and they had insane horsepower producing big block's that were very heavy in a light, stripped car that was heater and A.M radio optional. And they were fast and quick. Hemi's came with a warranty exclusion sticker. You buy it, you fry it, it's yours. A tuner didn't just bolt on parts to go faster. You got filthy dirty.
I say give the new X a year and see what happens. Perhaps it'll never be "the new" VIII or IX. The new engine needs a chance too. My dealer let me drive a few loaner Outlander's with paddle shifters while mine was in the shop for service. Fun? yes...but i'm not really into automatics. No matter how much hype is given. There's nobody who can shift as fast and positive as a good automatic. But an auto is an auto. I like my 6 speed in the MR, I like my 5 speed in the GSX. I've never driven a IX with a 5. For some reason Mitsu quit the 6. An auto that can't handle much more power scares me. The only auto I want is made by Colt, S&W, or Beretta.
I'll seriously look at every X that I see (and so will everyone else who knows cars). If you hate them it's simple. Don't buy one. They do look nice. I'm guessing that they drive nice too...weight and all. Even the dealer tells me to hang onto my IX MR. But I already knew that! Next year will tell what, if anything, happens.

I was going to add the X to my collection but the dealers in NY wants like 5k over MSRP FTL
and if i can't walk a stock srt-4 after paying 38k for a performance car, I think ill wait till they start selling for invoice.
check the dealers on the west coast "Snorre" at San Rafeal Mitsu or "renso" at Huntington Beach
you know for a daily drive the X get horriable gas milage.. 16 city 22 hwy are the 8 and 9's like 24-26 hwy.. i know in my 8 i get on the hwy at least 25.. you know for the cash u can get an evo VIII or XI and still afford a accord or civic to get u to and from work. thats the way i do it.. when i think of Evo i like to think or a street rocket that can launch like a plane and throw u around, like trying to tame a wild bull.. You know if i had 40k to spend id just import a Jap spec evo 9.. that would be my dream car... but hey we all have our own dreams.. im not a hater of the X.. its nice.. id drive one..
O just wondering.. is there space between the firewall and the motor to stick a big turbo in the X... from photos ive seen it looks like a tight fit..
final thought.. as long as the evo doesnt evolve into a hybrid ill be happy....
the evos got a rough road head with the new gas milage standers being introduced in 2012.. we'll all be driving around in 1.0L VW Gol's like they do in brazil

that video with the evo and the srt4, if you read the description the guy clearly stated that the X was having serious problems with his car. it would jerk in higher rpms and stop producing power past 5K.
those stupid drag races on you tube are so full of crap most of them lie in order to make their car look the best. so basing your opinion solely on one video shows you know nothing about the new evo.

^^ considering how rich the x comes from the factory, I wonder what the mileage would be after you lean it out with a bunch of bolt ons. Maybe equal or better to 8's and 9's. AMS should find out there avg mpg with all there boltons before they tune it.
i would love to see this.

i believe that neon vid.. i mean comon the X only puts 215 to the wheels and its over 3500lbs and a stock neon probably puts 190-200 to the wheels and only weighs 2800-2900lbs it should kick the X's ***.. that is in a straight line

I think racing from a roll is for ricers and people who want to spend the night in jail. A stock SRT-4 would not beat a stock Evo X on a dragstrip.
I made 222whp on a Dyno Dynamics. It would easily make 250whp stock on a Dynojet. I don't think its a power house, but it makes more than you are claiming stock.

A stock srt-4 should not beat an evo, I think that vid is just a preview of whats to come. All these big dyno hp claims and no 1/4 mile numbers
