My new 200 mph ride
Sorry for the lat response. I have been very busy selling my gazillion garage parts sale and I haven't read your post before. Fortunately I already have a mod spending budget and I read your post so I will take advantage of the usefull information you provided.
I am already itchy for modding the Z06 and I might take advantage of the local dealer and their unique warranty system, basically I just need to order the parts through them and they will install then plus it will be recorded on the receipt which means that I don't have to argue any warranty claims.
The clutch on this car is smelly as hell, if you over rev it even to go over the garge ramp the whole car stink like asbestos...
I think I am going to do the basic mods now:header, exhaust, intake and tune and see how I can handle the power.
Carlos

On the clutch issue whatever you do don't slip the clutch. Just let it out quickly without over reving the engine. A lot of people have that problem when they first get the car. Also even though there is no "break in period on the engine GM recommendd taking it easy on the clutch for the first 500miles. Also that smell will go away and if it doesn't just bring it back and I'm sure you will get a new one. I have read about this happening to a few cars over on the Z06 site.
I think if you are going to do the basic mods. For now I would say just do a Killer Bee intake and dyno tune...through a good shop that uses HP tuners program. It is the best way period! IF there isn't anybody in your area then I would call Jim Hall at Halltech and he does a fine mail order tune that has been proven time and again. I wouldn't put the headers on until your ready to unstall the cam along with it as you will not see very much gain without the cam. Unless your just looking for sound. JMO
Sounds like you have a good dealer there.
And post some pictures so we can see that bad boy!
Take care

Thanks!
Nice Car Carlos.
Ranger on the Vette forum was the fastest,, wonder what he is up to now?
Just how fast of a car do you need? Worried about tickets?
What do you miss about the 335i now that you have had the zo6 for a while,, First things that come to mind.

^^ Thanks indeed!! I thought that the BMW 335i with the options that I have plus the factory standard equipment was loaded. My new ride with the options that I put is very loaded.
In top of what the BMW had here are some of the most significant feautures specific to my car:
1) HUD display(displays multiple modes like street mode, street mode 1,track mode1, track mode 2) and withing each display it subdisplays other multiple readings like speed, radio chanels, oil temp, water temp, oil pressure, rpm, G meter, etc
2) heated seats
3) Navigation
4) XM satellite radio
5) On -star (you never know when you are going to have 5 or 6 budlights and crash)
6) much more complex and useful on board computer, the BMW was limited to speed, mileage and fuel parameters, the Vette displays engine parameters plus fuel consumption parameters
7) Side airbags
8) Leather stock
9) Telescopic steering wheel
10) Rear LSD
11) Upgraded brakes
12) Garage door openers built in
Overall, if you were to load a BMW just in comfort items you must add a few grand, then if you were to upgrade the BMW brakes that is another 2-3 grand, add a read LSD on the BMW and is another $2000-$2500 , then off course the engine mods and add another few grand.
After all, the Corvette Z06 as a whole performance package is a bargain considering it can hang with real supercars that cost twice and 3 times:
Murcielago, Gallardo,GT2,GT3-RS,Ferrari F-430, Dodge Viper, Ford GT, etc, etc
If the GTR was on sale for MSRP the it would compite directly with the Z06, fortunately for Chevrolet owners the Z06 being sold at just over invoice is right now perhaps one of the best all around cars you can get. But unfortunately for the GTR market the price will set this car away from most of the people.

Well, Carlos took me out in the Z06 sunday, and I must say that the most impressive quality was the refinement of this car, strange, but an Evo is much more raw. The Vette is actually a little softer riding, much smoother, and the torque is insane, it steers slower than the evo. The shifting is super precise, and the tall gears are great. The interior is nice as well but I come from an RS so to me anything is a step up. This car with mild mods will be insane. Its weird how a 505 hp car can be quiet also. Crusing 60 in 6th nets 1100 rpm, with enough torque to pull that gear. I drove it briefly but I wont drive someone dream hard enough to form a full impression. But if you can afford one of these get it, do bolt ons and smile daily. Just weird how a car thats 3 inches from the ground can feel that smooth and comfortable.
Your close! Most stock Z06' dyno around 440rwhp give or take a couple of HP.
With the mods I mentioned Intake and Tune it would put you at about 475-485rwhp range.
Add a few other baics like a Vette - Air, 160 stat, poted TB and IN and your right around the 500rwhp level.
The big numbers come with adding Headers and Cam. On the low side you will see about 535 to a high of around 600rwhp. Port the heads and your at 600 for sure and over. At this level I would add stronger clutch, C5 half shafts to put that power to the ground safely.
That is about it other than throwing a 100 dry shot on there if your a drag racer. These cars run in the 9's with this combo...a friend just ran a 9:67 @144mph with this set up in TX.
Also there are some TT and SC kits that you can run on the stock block a low psi. I would build the bottom end and all supporting mods if I were ever going with either of those two set ups to be safe and to be able to run higher boost. LPE just made 1400+ rwhp with a TT car just a couple of months ago.
Thats pretty much the whole picture.
Hope that helps and I wish you good luck on getting that 09. Hey they might bump the stock HP up by then!

My goal is 500whp, all motor. I told my best friend Carlos that I will save all my pennies to get the Z06, but the regular 430hp C6 is still an option. If I keep my Evo then I will be forced to get the regular Vette
The 500whp all motor is easy to get to as I mentioned in the above post.
I wouldn't discount looking for a used 06-07 or by then even an 08 Z06 when your ready. There a lot of younger buyers that are now realizing the track and power potenial of the Corvette and of course the Z06, BUT AND I SAY A BIG BUT!!! There are still a lot of ...um...should I say older long time Vette guys that drive their cars once a week and wax it like everytime they take it out of the garage
These are the low mileage BARGIN CARS OUT THERE!! that I would take advantage of if I were in your shoes. Get a perfect used Z06 unstead of a new C-6....they are worlds apart stock vs stock. JMHOLast edited by WhtEvo05; Mar 11, 2008 at 09:43 AM.
