I wouldnt recommand buy 400~500 whp sti/evo, unless you know the owner or trust shop did the work.

Whats your budget? Why you want 400~500 whp car for daily? Thats pretty much useless for just daily.

i was so pissed when it happened. i wasnt even driving like an idiot. merging on the freeway and a storm drain was clogged. hit standing water at 60mph with half tread 265's. skated across all 3 lanes avoiding all the cars and by the time i almost regained control i hit the wet grass and was aimed at a pole holding up a huge sign. hit it at like 40mph. smashed the radiator support right into the timing cover and launched the timing belt. it could have been fixed, but the framerail and firewall had damage and i didnt want it back. the adjuster let me take my parts off it and gave me $27k for it. worked out fine for me!

i wouldnt call it reliable at that power level on the stock engine.

I would being I drive it everyday get on it when I need to and still holds strong. Hell there are people with way more power then I am making and there stock motors and are just fine. Its all about the tune.

STIs can be plenty reliable but they require more work to do this. The engine does not like knock one bit and unfortunately the design is such that they are prone to knock. If you're smart with your build however, you'll be fine. It really boils down to personal preference. I like my STI, which isn't at the power levels you want, but I also like elements of a friend's Evo X. I like the way my exhaust sounds and the power delivery but I like his seats, the steering quickness and the handling. They're very different cars though.

as different as they are, they are closer to each other than any other 2 cars on the road. and once the engine is built and the stock pistons are tossed in the trash, it can handle some knock just fine.

thats where im different than most people. i dont just get on it when i need to, i get on it when i want. no matter what im driving, the petal hits the floor and it hits redline at least 5x a day. even on the drive to work.

I've got less than $3,500 in drivetrain/fuel mods (I fab'd a lot of my stuff and do all my own work) and made 502whp on a 97*F day with 93oct and completely stock drivetrain too. I have quite a few track days, auto-x, drag events, and lots of DD miles ran at these numbers w/o any issues. And get this...no $1,200+ twin or triple disk either! FX400 6puck with lightweight flywheel and over 10k miles with no problems

Now here's the flip side, i know some might say my car was a " ticking time bomb" but i had a great tune and know how to drive and maintain my car. I did just pull the motor today to start my 2.4lr build, but not because it had any issues... I just want more power

PS: I use to own a mildly modded 2006 STI that i bought new, i traded it in within a year after one test drive in my evo and never looked back

what i call reliable and what everyone else calls reliable are 2 different things. 99% of nasioc agrees that 400whp is safe for stock subaru blocks. i sweat at 300whp. i just like a large safety margain. im not going to knock your setup, if its working (it is) then great.
