400-500hp dd evo or sti?
What kills me is guys who are use to driving sti or wrx get into an evo and say damn this car is so much faster then mine. My buddy did that with his sti that was modded and got into my lightly modded evo and he was like damn I glad this is your car I would get in alot of trouble.

My wife owns an 08 STi. I won a Evo. Stock for Stock Daily driving I would take the STi. Interior is nicer then the Evo. More creature comforts. Once you start modding..........Evo all the way.
We spent about 1000 bux on her STi and its barely cracking 300whp. I spent 700 on my Evo and I was a few hp short of 400 to the wheels.
I live in constant fear that she will have the dreaded busted ringland issues the 08+'s seem to have.

one of my closest friend has a full bolt on 20G-XT + meth (400whp dynojet) 07 STI with all the quality suspension and brake goodies (TiC/AST coilovers, Oswald subframe, all thinkable bar, arms, links, RE30s + RE11s, pair of Recaro etc etc) and i'd say it is somewhat close in terms of fun to drive factor compared to mine. having said that, my car still edges his out at the road course and drag racing and yet i have spent quite a few bucks less than him so

instead of regurgitating the heresay from the forums, i'm gonna note a few things:
- almost all high power STIs don't have that rumble that everyone loves because nobody has the factory unequal length header
- the combination of the ****ty stock bouncy couch they call a seat and the way the engine/tranny is packaged (applies to GD STi's only - i don't care about the van style GRs) which makes the footwell both shallow and narrow, makes for an uncomfortable driving position for taller drivers compared to the Evo's, which pampers you with a factory Momo steering wheel and supportive Recaros.
- USDM STIs (EJ25s) just don't have the powerband for racing unless you pour a ton of money into it. all the high power examples (500whp+ on a low reading Dyno Dynamics) i've seen from Rocket Rally (one of the most well known Canadian Subaru builders) all lag lag lag and don't make real power till 4,500-5,000rpm then cuts off at 7,000rpm. correct me if i'm wrong but "theorectically" they're said to be able to rev to 8,000+ rpm with a built block yet i haven't seen it done reliably. over the years, i've known more than 5 people who have blown up STI motors (built or otherwise) and amazingly, no Evos (yet).
lets just say if a nice dashboard (just about the only thing that i think is better on the STI) is not a concern for you, you'll enjoy an Evo more, no matter if you just do bolt ons (the factory twinscoll 16G with a 10.5 hotside absolutely destroys the STI's VF39/43s) or go with an all out build.
without trying to sound toooo much like an Evo fanboy, just take a look at how many Evos are dominating in time attack events around the world, or doing 9s with the stock block in the 1/4. i don't think i have to say anymore
but even more this^

i'm gonna guess you haven't you had your rear diff rearranged? for those who don't know, USDM Evos came with improperly arranged LSD plates from the factory. power oversteer can be found if you so much just rearrange/reshim the stockers (8 plate - $free+labor) or go with an aftermarket unit (12 plate - TRE's is ~$465+install)

My wife loves her rumble. She is thinking of going back to the unequal length headers to ge it back. She doesn't care about the loss in power. LOL.
