It's been a while. I had sold my Evo 9 in September of last year anticipating the RS. Well I took deliver last July and it's been great. Hope everyone is doing well. The car is a lot of fun.
very impressive. your thoughts on its performance? never would have thought it would have been able to keep up with an actually prepped car
your car most likely a lot faster then mine
We do have severe engine restrictions, which is not only restricts HP mainly restricts usable RPM too.
Also as much as people cherish mechanical diffs which are makes the driver work a lot harder, the electrical diffs are better nowadays. As we had some discussion about this before, if you remember.
Snow/slippery surface is the best way to show weakness of the drive train. Also its a slower reacting surface compare to tarmac or even gravel. ( this was actually a mix of gravel and snow in a reality when it comes down to grip. This is not full snow grip level here)
Hence one of my older post when I said, despite all the modification of my rally car, basically it remains the same performance level or slower as a show room car...
Which created a quite storm specially some real smart guys field.(basically call my car performance stock level one) LOL
Those restriction works.
For me its no wonder a good unrestricted saloon with right tires/suspension is able to keep up a lot older Rally car.
Rally is about driver skill, and they try to keep it that way. Those RS cars when it will actually enter the real rally field, has drop front and rear electrical diffs, only the mid can stay, also it has to be restricted engine wise with a 32 or 34mm restrictor plate on the Turbo. These RS 's have a bigger turbo as the Evo X if I am right from factory. I wonder how the stock big turbo will work on the car with the restictions in place. Hopefully the bigger displacement will help on that problem.
Saloon vs Rally car test been done before, I think Top Gear had an Episode where they run modern street cars against older Rally cars and they were pretty even.
Dont know the episode though, sorry.

I think what a lot of people default to is that mechanical diffs are more predictable - which makes sense. But electronic differentials can do things the mechanicals can't and be an aid. Now, stock it may not do what you liker and how you like it, but electronic differentials have the entirety of the future open to them.
If you guys wanna skip the boredom of him taking about himself and otherwise babbling about, fast forward to 4:45. Yes.. almost 5mins of him blah blah blahing.

Turning circle on my 8 is nothing to write home about either. Maybe if he drives faster, that overdriven rear gear ratio will tighten up that circle
