Because the GTI was pointless to go beyond the K04 turbo I had on it, not enough traction.

The R can/should be able to put the power from an upgraded turbo down, and do it well. But your stuck with very few companies that put together s turbo kit, and a tune to go with it. APR is one, and it's expensive. And you're limited to the turbo they choose. There's no choices...

The car has only been out for how long? You can't expect Evo-like support right away.

Anyway, so is the Focus also going to do the start/stop thing to save fuel? That wouldn't be so bad.

You can buy/assemble turbo kits for the car, but then you're stuck without a good tuning option. That's how it was with the GTI. I could have put a GTX2871r on it from ATP with their kit and some other parts, but then there would be no tune for it. The only option was to spend a lot more money with companies that offer both the turbo kit and a tune, like APR. But APR used a 2867, with their own exhaust and compressor housing specs, so their tune wouldn't work on say ATP's 2871 kit..

You didn't really answer the question. The car is relatively new. It will take time for tuners to jump on it.

It also helps to have owners who want to spend money on aftermarket parts. Not sure, but I suspect the VW demographic is a bit less mod-happy than the FoST/FiST/FoRS crowd is/will be.

Having spent some time on their forums because of my Golf R ownership I can say.... they spend a ton of money on mods, just like we do, but in a different way.

Airbags, $8,000 wheels, intakes and any OEM german parts that USDM versions don't get.

There are also some hardcore performance-centric owners as well, but it's a much smaller segment.

I was going to come back with exactly that. VW's simply don't end up with extensive performance support like Ford, Subaru, Evo's, etc due *most* of the owners being more into the show side. Most seem to stop at bolt on mods; exhaust, intake, maybe a HPFP and an intercooler, and a tune as far as HP goes..

Self tuning for VW that works well and is affordable will be great. APR and all the canned tuned companies are engaged in a clutch destroying torque war, and overcharge like crazy for their products.

VW dealers are dire for sales right now given this $2k loyalty incentive among other things. Might be a good time to buy an R if any of you are in the market, lol.
