Civic Type R announced for US. 2016 Civic debuts [MERGED]
I couldn't guess on 'Ring times, to tell the truth LOL
Most I read are articles comparing the three on race tracks. A bit different, I'm assuming. Horsepower isn't as much of a factor.
I'm interested to see.

Now check out the list of times below and see just how fast that is compared to other performance cars like, vettes, ferrari, lambo's, porsche's, etc....
Its one serious FWD car.

oops, sorry I thought that was just general info now.

nice, thanks! i don't drive on the 'ring, so i'm not too familiar with what car has done which time.
i've seen a few domestic and Japanese vids comparing the DC2 ITR to newer Type-Rs and it always seemed to come out on top.
not to say i haven't missed something showing the newer ones are faster.

how about that?

"Briefly, on the last testing Civic Type R set up its own FWD lap record of 7:50! In order to come up with the answer is that a good or bad, follows a comparison of this time with the times of some models which are registered in the record book on this track.
As additional information is worth mentioning that the Honda Civic Type R equalize the score with the ultimate (and of course, much more expensive) cars, because the time of 7:50 on this legendary track already achieved BMW E46 M3 CSL (yes, the ultimate M3) and Porsche Carrera S (new, 997 generation). So then, who is slower?
Here is the list:
Chevrolet Corvette C5 Z06 (7:56)
Porsche 911 Turbo – 996 (7:56)
Porsche Panamera Turbo (7:56)
Caterham R500 Superlight (7:55)
Ferrari F430 F1 (7:55)
2008 Nissan GT-R (7:54)
Porsche 911 Turbo – 997 (7:54)
Renault Megane RS 275 Trophy-R (7:54)
Mercedes CLK DTM AMG (7:54)
Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4 (7:52) "

they seems claim it that way. which is pretty shady for me.
roll cage is def, not stock. gives rigidity, but add on weight too. maybe there is a new safety requirements now for those factory tests, i dont know. maybe they think besides the cage the car is stock, like suspensions, engine, transmission, stock weight etc. i dont know, most ring times are not been made equal at least we can say that. drivers, weather, set ups etc. vary soo much, almost pointless... i mean dig into it.
either way, if the engine the drive train, brakes etc and the suspension is stock, and stock weight, that time is absolutely astonishing for a fwd car.
see what happens in the a next two years.

Honda set out to make the fastest FWD car to hit the ring since the RS Trophy, if that car managed a 7:54 it doesn't seem so crazy to think a CTR can obtain a 7:50.
The car was suppose to be as stock as possible with the safety limitations.
The car was equipped with a cage, data recording and measurement instruments, and the passenger seat was removed to get the car weight closer to stock as possible.. I'm sure the car actually weighed more than the mass production version.

The CTR ring time is amazing and is probably the reason why Ford has not publishing the new Focus RS's ring time. Ford started testing the RS there over a year ago so they definitely have the data.
I never thought I would consider buying a fwd car, but if they bring a 3 door version CTR to the US I might have to get one.

Interesting outlook and not unreasonable. I'm still having a hard time believing the CTR did in stock form (barring mentioned safety mods).

when you watch the video the Civic is extremely bumpy. So i am not sure how good is actually will be on DD. Looks sooo much stiffer then an Evo and teh Evo got complains all the time being too stiff.
SO there is some downers i am sure to get that performance in stock form. regardless it is truly amazing car.

I was rather simplistically thinking that if they are withing 0.5 sec of each other on this course, then maybe they'd all be pretty close on the Ring. I realize its a much different course, but if anything I'd think that the faster course would favor the more powerful cars. Interestingly, the 2015 M3 clocked a 7:50, and I couldn't find anything on the 2015 RS3.

All we want is a AWD turbo with more than 350hp from the factory and a 6spd manual.
Why is this so difficult for all these manufacturers to understand???
