What changed my mind on the SRT4 was OneLapOfAmerica. Finishing 8th with just a few simple mods (mopar stage1 plus LSD). the best EVO was 16th and there was an EVO8 that finshed around 25th. I think a lot was due to a terrific driver but it still shows the potential of the car.

Might want to check on that - I think that the warranty is voided with mods.

Dude, Spool, I was wondering what happened to you lately. It's good to see you back in good form. Chill out with that noise. I can't be laughing uncontrollably at work anymore. I'll leave it at that. You and I have a habbit of highjacking threads.

The SRT-4 is a nice car, but it will not compare to the Evo. The Evo has AWD and the SRT-4 doesn't. The power output of the SRT-4 is around 2/3 of that of the Evo and reliability-wise, I would take the Evo any day... (Japanese cars are the most reliable after all)

Nope, I believe Mopar is providing three stages of upgrades; all of which are covered by the factory warrenty.

IF you want a car that's going to be in the shop every week then go for a SRT-4, personally I wasn't impressed when the shift knob fell off in my hands in front of the sales man. It's a decent package for 20g's though.. entry level turbo car if you ask me

SRT is still a very good car for under 20K. I can only Imagine what that car could do if he spend another 13K to much the EVO's avg price range.

You're way off...

September issue of Sport Compact Car rates both of these among their "Eight Great Rides" and provides HP & Torque graphs for them along with peak numbers.

(All numbers are at the wheels...)

The SRT-4 had 223 hp vs. 233 hp for the Evo, which is less than a 5% advantage for the Evo.

Comparing torque, the SRT-4 had 256 ft-lb vs. 252 ft-lb for the Evo, so the SRT-4 actually beats the Evo there.

Looking at the HP graph -- at 3000 RPM, the SRT-4 is putting about 140-145 HP to the road, compared to about 100 HP for the Evo.

The Evo might be a substantially better performing car than the SRT-4 (I myself believe that to be true), but its advantages aren't in the powerplant.

I would also agree that the SRT-4 is a very respectable car, my dad works for Dodge and he was one of the testers for the SRT-4 and they do offer 3 stages of factory upgrades that will not void the warranty. They are doing this because they know that if they don't it will get modded anyway and in some cases modded incorrectly. This way they can offer the upgrade and things can be done correctly with no worries and that delivers better customer service. He stated that the difference between the EVO and SRT-4 stock vs stock would be handeling , trust due to stearing and the all wheel drive. They built the SRT-4 to compete with the Honda Civic class of cars though not really the EVO.

I almost went with the str but the handling is nothing special. One good u turn at 35 or a power slide at 120 and the evo wins hands down. If you want raw speed the srt is fast for a fwd. The engine is capable of being tunned but how can it put the power down. Flat out it may be faster at some points than the Evo but who cares. Nope, 10 grand for all the chassis mods and speed goodies is a bargain... cost it out if you doubt it.

come on now, how many daily drivers are really gonna use the EVOs handling? I mean yea it can handle better but unless your on a track like most arent then its pointless. like someone said they arent made to compete, but the srt4 can hang pretty ****in good to be in a class below the EVO.

yeah same goes with the sti...i love the evo and thats my dream car...but a car with as much power as an sti...u really dont need a rally handling car in a city where i live...just str8 aways...so a car like the lightning, sti, srt...are all competitors with the evo as far as im concerned..cuz no 1 is gonna be racing around street corners goin 150...its all about str8 away
