Have you driven a ZL1 before? If you havent, you would be surprised at how touchy the throttle is. Anything over 1/4 throttle roasts the tires off the line. They are pretty hard to launch. Supposedly they have a very good launch control system but you have to set it up and my dad isnt that tech savy. I honestly dont think he cares to set it up as he rarely drives the car. Like I said, its all about being able to put the power to the ground. You can have 1000 hp but if you can only use 100 of it, does no good.
I have done a couple laps around the track in a ZL1 1LE. Yea, it's a little touchy, but I also knew not to give it the beans since it had so much torque. I agree with you though, the big torque RWD cars are hard to manage if you are used to being able to plant your foot into the floor.
Another weekend of racing. So they finally made me switch classes. They had me in the compact class again and I have no idea why. So far today I am .7 faster then 2nd place. So they kicked me out and put me in sports car, where I should have been to start. With my car being stock, I definitely won't win now but its still a blast to be out here.
On Sunday, another Supra showed up. He was all stock like me but had an aftermarket front sway bar. He ended up getting 2nd in class running .200 faster than me. So ya, the Supras were dominating the Vettes, except for one. Definitely not bad for a stock car on horrible tires. I went for a ride in a lot of the other cars out there. The grip most of the other cars had compared to mine is just crazy. I cant wait for my suspension, wheels and tires to get here so I can be on that same level.
Now that the weather is getting nice here on the east coast, all the "nice" cars are coming out. This is very much a new experience for me, because in California you drive your nice cars year round.
Anyway, I've been seeing a lot of new supras on the road now. They look really nice and REALLY nice lowered with lower offset wheels.

the Supra still comes with Michelin PSS right? I mean I know they're no 200tw tire, but its supposed to be one of the better "real" street tires... are you just used to 200tw grip levels or do they really suck?

Those are great street tires but fall off a cliff if you do anything other than that.

That is what they come with. Dont get me wrong, the car grips good but not nearly as good as it would on 200tw. The compound is definitely hard compared to a 200tw. They dont suck at all. I am going to keep them as my street tires but they are not a track tire by any means.

And this is the real issue. Push them a hair too hard and they turn into slicks in the rain. I actually just noticed that I chunked one of the rear tires and I think its now leaking. So ya, not a track tire. Go carve some mountain roads and they will be fine but thats the limit.

really? they fall off at an autox? a friend of mine used to track his BRZ on them and they'd be good for 3-4 laps before they lap times started falling... and thats more than a full day of autox but without the benefit of cool downs between laps. and he's not slow either, same lap times as other 86's with more power and on 200tw tires...

Yep, they die after lap 1.5. End of the first lap and start of the second, they work. 3rd lap is always sideways, even with a decent cool down. Maybe its the 3400 lbs that does it. Not a competitive tire by any means.

Is this awesome torque converter BMW-in-disguise really stock, or did your dad pull a spark plug to make you feel better?
Sounds like a lot of mental masturbation believing a 117mph Zupra can pull a 125mph ZL1 in a fair race.

I think you missed the part where I said the Camaro needs a big driver mod.... You are also comparing times that people do on a prepped drag strip, not a non prepped street. The more power you have, the harder it is to put it to the non prepped ground. I 100% believe that the times people post are accurate in a perfect situation, which again, is not on a normal street.

Swapping him cars and a re-race would negate that in a hurry.

You disparage it for being a BMW, but I think a German-Japanese love car is kind of cool. One of the biggest issues with German cars is the reliability, but this thing has Toyota DNA.
